    ^ Agree

Yeah, because Mortal Kombat has that certain style of music that I can point out anywhere. The "Dan Forden style" per say. Even the newer MK games follow that style. Now the first MK may have a little more Oriental influence but all of the MK games have that "Dan Forden style".

Both fairies and fanboys live outside reality. Which is the same place where MKII was better on Genesis.
You may continue lie to yourself. But will it change anything?

I agree that Snes MKII is superior because it offers the (almost) complete package, as to where Genesis MKII was really a bare bones port.
But there's one thing that the Genesis version has that the Snes doesn't (imo) Is that it feels more like the Arcade version gameplay wise.

The Snes game really feels off at times, its like they didn't manage to properly port the Arcade game.

As for the music, i feel that MKII managed to take MK1's creepy oriental music and give it a freaky twist,
which was perfect since the game dumped you in this whole new unknown world.
so the music was a perfect adaptation of MK1's more "normal" music.

MK3 on the other hand.. it totally did not have that creepy oriental "Enter the Dragon meets Big Trouble in Little China" style.
Because to me thats MK, Bruce Lee & Van Damme go to the island of Enter the Dragon and see weird shit.
not Cyborgs and Native Americans fight Caucasian Sub-Zero & The Sand People from Star Wars.

MK II may look slightly better on the SNES and have some of the details from the arcade,
but there is no really convenient controller for the Nintendo version. AFAIK, if you don't want
to use the poor original controller, you have to buy that big arcade stick. Not that this is a
bad option, but personally I never had a place to put such a thing, I played my video games
always from a chair/couch with no tables between me and the TV. The 6-buttoner for the
Mega Drive is just the best choice in such a situation and enables me to play MK II with no
    problems at all.

No low punch when crouching? Give me a brake, no one ever uses this. It's a useless
move, that got deleted by a bug. Big deal.

Also, I like the music and sound effects best on the Mega Drive. And yes, this implies that
I prefer the Mega Drive soundtrack to the arcade. Baffles me as much as you probably.

    Free your music,

Fellas don't even argue the MKII SNES vs Genesis port.

It's been pointed out countless times that Acclaim/Probe did a craptastic port for the Genesis in order to sell the 32X version.

the 32X version is the real Genesis version.

And its still craptastic, still missing sfx and character sprites and.. yes,
mighty probe could not even use this huge 32M cart to fit the damn ending pics in.

Probe is a failure when it comes to memory use!

(though i feel they did a nice job on the Genesis MKII backgrounds,
they could have been grainy but they made sure not to go there.)

I love the MK games. Hell, I have almost all of them for both NES and SNES (Missing UMK3 on both consoles). They're still fun fighting games to play even after being around for so long.

I always liked playing them better on the Genesis. The genesis 6 button turbo controller was better for fighting games in my opinion. I wouldn't say "it's damned obvious" because a lot of people would disagree with you. But to each their own.

I bought the 32X version brand new, upon it release! I thought I was going to get the Arcade version of the game.. Man, I returned the game the very same day..

I did this previously with the sega cd version of MK1..

Hey, now... as a Mortal Kombat Expert, you of all people should know that the ducking low punch was vital for those insanely strong corner combos. The corner was a place you really DID NOT want to be in MKII, lol.

Man, I really miss arcades sometimes

Well, I expected ALOT from the SEGACD and 32X ports!
Probe could have reprogrammed both games to take advantage of the hardware!
It was powerful hardware, and there was no excuse for it...

Exactly. Both games were billed as being immense upgrades over their Genesis counterparts. Do the words BIGGER BETTER LOUDER MEANER mean anything to you? They sure as hell imply a bit more than a (badly misplaced) CD soundtrack and some extra frames of animation, which were the absolute bare minimum they could have implemented to even justify a disc release.

Larger character sprites, correct music placement, blood spurt patterns from the arcade game and a few other minor details that would more closely mimic the presentation of the original (font style, life bars, etc.) could have made just enough of a difference to warrant the incredibly masturbatory wording on the cover of the game. What we got did not.

Similarly, the 32X version was hyped up as a nearly arcade perfect port, even based on the original ads for it (which I still have around here somewhere). Is it too much to ask for such a port to perhaps remove and replace all the crappy Genesis samples and music instead of simply adding samples where they didn't exist before? How about fixing the various body parts that mysteriously disappear after bouncing around a couple times during a fatality?

Nah, we're fuckin' PROBE. Fuck your reasonable standards and expectations.

I can't believe I'm still bitter about this shit. Jeez.

MK for the Genesis was a so-so port of a so-so arcade game. It wasn't a good fighting game, and really only had the novelty of digitized characters and fatalities to carry it. MK II in the arcades was noticeably better on all fronts, but the Genesis port was basically a half-assed attempt by a company who spent their lives butchering nearly every port of MK II they did. So much was cut out, and we all know the Genesis could have done better visually and aurally. MK 3 was a step down in the arcades with the goofy mannequin-looking fatality bits, cheap CPU gameplay and dial-a-combo garbage, but MK 3 was the best port of the franchise to the Genesis (IMO). Lots of voice, more accurate music, all the characters, better (though grainy) graphics... it felt the most complete of all the ports (except for the ending pics... or lack thereof.). UMK 3 was then a step back, as there just wasn't enough room to do a really faithful port, and lost a lot due to memory constraints.

So, there are my thoughts on it.
