Man, I don't own and haven't ever owned a C64, but I don't know how you can't say that The Great Giana Sisters song wasn't simply awesome.

That one is very good, but there are still way better ones found on the NES(I don't think you realize how amazing some of those NES soundtracks are, some are so amazing even with all this CD technology these days, and sound capeabilities of the modern systems, those old soundtracks still rate as some of the best soundtracks ever made in general, not just some of the best 8b soundtracks).

Guardian Legend is another one with a awesome soundtrack(how could I have forgot this game), I'm surprized that hasn't been mentioned yet.

The only game in the running for me would be Space Harrier if for some reason the NES version's soundtrack was butchered, and I doubt that. Outrun's I'd have to revisit but I can't place a SMS soundtrack equal to Burgertime's.
A couple more superior NES soundtracks: Dragon Spirit and, way near the top, Dino Riki. There would also be the rest of the Famicom RPGs for consideration including the other FFs, Destiny of an Emperor 2, and Faria.
I'd put Zillion, Quartet and Golvellius over most NES games both in sound quality and composition. I'm not sure how I'd put NES stuff I like in relation to these, but it amuses me how people's ears get trained to prefer what they played the most.

Also, I bumped the soundchip tribute thread, I like that organization better than a "best" list.

Nobody is denying the greatness of the NES soundchip and its game music. I just see a lack of respect for the other systems and the music presented on them. Metroid is pretty good, but its music is so sparse that I can't consider it at the top of 8-bit music.

What no Bionic Commando? (the new one I mean). That was the worst ending I've ever seen. It almost made me wish that the game wasn't good so that I could hate it.

Oh how I hate what the industry has turned into.
Except it's releasing for free. Oops.

I don't think 'generic' endings like "you beat the bad guys, good job bro." should be considered in the worst, so many 8-bit games just have 'the end' because hey, limitations, no storylines, etc.

Worst endings are ones where they try to add character development and emotional backstories in games but the endings suck anyway.

Me neither, but it certainly fits the game perfectly. On a technical level, the Giana Sisters blows it away. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the NES and its sound chip (there's a reason I have more NES games than any other system), but looking into the C64 now I'm really impressed.

Ah yes, the classic bitch when they do X, bitch when they don't do X situation.

Is it really so hard for you to say good on them? They didn't even have to make this, you know.

I *do* like the MGS2 ending, granted it's bewildering and downright crazy, but it's a proper ending for one.

+1. That IGN list is shit, most of the games on there had OK endings; there are far more worst ones they could of listed.

I don't actually give 2 shits about Mass Effect, this doesn't really concern me. I do have friends that were massively pissed at the ending though, and I told them right away it wasn't how it was going to end. And I was right. As usual.
You might say they didn't have to make it but the fact remains their image was tarnished after this whole ME3 fiasco.

Here's a comparison of several soundtracks for games that were on both systems.

Throw in the Master System for comparison.

I'll toss in one of my favorites for the C64 as well, PSI-5 Trading Outpost.

Skate or die on the NES is way better, the C64 version makes your ears bleed

Bubble Bobble is an interesting choice for comparing SMS, and NES, they're both different, yet about equally as good

Both Maniac mansions suck pretty bad.

Now you're talking, PSi-5 Trading Company has pretty awesome music(a little repeatative, but the music in of its self is sweet).
