Puyo Preview: Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (3DS)

Mickey Mouse is set to explode onto the Nintendo 3DS this fall with his true “epic” adventure. Power of Illusion is a sequel to the Genesis and Master System classic Castle of Illusion, and gamers will once again be butt-stomping in a beautiful, 2D platformer. Read the full article for more details.

This looks like the game that will make a 3DS worth buying.

Agreed, this is making me want to buy a 3DS already! Stuff like Mario Kart 7 and Luigi's Mansion 2 doesn't hurt either, but this really does look like a system-seller. Hope it's as good as it looks so far!

    NDS

Woo hoo! An featured article on the 3DS title! Thanks for posting the article Melf!

As I've stated before, Castle of Illusion was one of the few titles that gave me joy from beginning to end!

I am normally well reserved but ... woo hoo! It's time to revisit my childhood again! Yip yip yippy!
The fictional character Gordon Gekko once stated,"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good". Gekko is sometimes unfairly judged. There is a big difference between maintaining one's moral compass in business and that which operates in one's personal life. In business, the reality is that if you are not willing to crush your competitor, you might as well get out of the game while you're still ahead.

Now, this is a game to look forward too. If it plays and sounds as good as it looks it will be a great throwback to classic gaming.

It's funny how the console wars seem to be alive to this day and age! In a Nintendo blog with many visitors (mynintendonews, how it's called) the number of negative comments the preview received was unbelievable! I don't think it's the "basic 2D look", since many beloved games on the NDS (a system with capabilities for polygonal graphics) were 2D. I think if it had "Magical Quest" and "SNES" as part of the description instead of "Castle of Illusion" and "Mega Drive", most of these negative comments wouldn't exist. I hope it's a vocal minority.

90% of the comments are about the graphics sucking. That's just sad.
    Good 2d graphics > mediocre 3d graphics.

...but it's not really a sequel, is it? It's not made by Sega nor the original Illusion team. It most definitley is inspired by Sega's Illusion games but not a true sequel.

I guess it's more of a spiritual sequel. I'm just happy that they've decided to at least keep it 2d.
A lot of the best and most popular games on the DS are 2d also, so that shows 2d isn't quite dead yet.

Mickey himself looks wrong. He shouldn't be so white. Yes, I am a Mickey racist! Other than that it looks promising.

Disney was involved with COI, so at least they're still on board for this one. This game has Mickey going through the Castle of Illusion and fighting Mizrabel, so it's probably as close to a true sequel as we're going to get.

This has jumped to the top of my list of most anticipated games. It'll be fun going back through Castle and World before it comes out. Illusion Series + 3DS = Magic.

This couldn't have been done on a DS instead of the 3DS?

Nope. The combination between 2D sprites and layered backgrounds looks freaking fantastic in 3D. It's definitely something you have to experience in person.

Well, I'm legally blind in one eye, so I can't experience it.
