So much truth in this statement.

Yeah, the Formula racer is way too easy to spin out. The Stock car is best for beginners, or for just casual play.

You need to practice a bit more... It's not THAT difficult.
IMO Virtua Racing has amazing controls. It's not just as plain and unrealistic as most of the other racing games of its time.

The change in the handling compared to earlier racers is what I liked best about Virtua Racing. I prefer the spin-out to being unable to turn enough and running off the road as was common in 16-bit racers.

It actually taught people (myself included) proper braking techniques and the importance of following their "lines".

VRD is practically a racing sim, its not Daytona USA

Formula Racer = pump the steering! (took me a while to figure that out)

Ah, thanks for the tip. I'm still not very good with the Formula racer. Trying to race with it "normally" makes it much more difficult to win than it should be.

I think all three cars play with the same principles. The game just has a degree of slide angle for each car before it spins out. Otherwise the cars each have a different top speed and the game is basically designed, like all Sega Racers, to maintain top speed throughout as much of the tracks as possible. Most of this only requires typical racer line driving, pull to the outside early and cut into the curve late, but in this case slowing down isn't all that necessary. Tapping the direction with the digital pad instead of holding it does the rest of the work in most cases. Only hairpin turns need the brake.

Knuckles Chaotix is a good game. I really like the co-op play. But my favorites are Shadow Squadron, Virtua Racing, and Virtua Fighter.

First place in Virtua Racing is no small feat, especially with the Prototype car. Virtua Racing doesn't give first place like today's pansy car RPGs do, you're racing against the same cars, and have to race a perfect line while avoiding them since you don't start in first place. Like any good classic racer you kind of have to be "in the zone" to get 1st place. I usually play Virtua Racing to improve my time, or sometimes just race against that damned timer, and only go for placing when I intend to sit with it for a while. I would also say that if played over emulation or on an LCD causes ANY controller lag first place would be impossible.

I popped it in this morning and after a few tries got second place on Normal Big Forest, the video should be uploaded in about two hours and I'll post it here. The only reason I didn't get first place was because of one slip up.

I would say it's a tie for Space Harrier and Kolibri in my opinion, Knuckles Chaotix is probably the next one to round out my top 3. Tempo and Blackthorne were also pretty fun and round out my list of top games that'd appeal to most everyone.

Tempo and MKII are top for me, but Chaotix is a close third.
