I've noticed that my Genesis and Sega CD are slightly different shades of black plastic. Does anybody know why? They are both model 1's. the genesis is made in Taiwan and the Sega CD is made in Japan; perhaps the plastic each factory used could be slightly different. Anybody else notice anything similar? or is mine just unique?

Variations in manufacturing probably, more likely than not one got more sun exposure, cigarette smoke etc. than the other or a combination of the three.

One of my model 1s came with an expansion port cover that was darker than the rest of it too.

Maybe the original owner had the expansion port in use and the cover was stored away from cigarette smoke, while the console itself saw lots of nicotine? Originally Posted by AlecRob
