    Nonsense!

Video games were still okay for about, oh, four years after that. Then out came new consoles I had no reason to buy, EA cut a bullshit deal with the NFL because they didn't have the balls to compete with 2K, stuff like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 came out and every FPS was the same. Well, to be perfectly honest nothing really interesting has been done with that genre since late-90s PC gaming, but that's another story.

Oh, and American Idol's lame. It's a rancid, overproduced charade that for some reason the whole country has agreed to go along with. Idol was interesting for one, maybe two seasons at the most. Now it's been around for like 12 years and we're supposed to believe this country can turn out a true "idol" of music once a year, and they have the brass to call themselves "the best thing on TV." I knew it was bad, but have things really gone that far downhill?

I'm gonna sound like a true hipster here but by the third series they completly jumped the shark. Too much focus on Vince and not enough Howard Moon nutty Jazz-goodness. You could tell a lot of the more off the wall stuff like the Santana-esque "Priest and the Beast" episode was Julian Barrett's doing.

Too much neon and not enough El Topo references in the third series.

The Crack Fox however was funny and genuinely frightening. I'd often enjoying creeping out one of my ex's with that voice in bed the morning after a boozy night.

I retract my statement from a page back slightly; not all British shows of today are badly written, The IT Crowd was actually written quite well and is perhaps one of my favourite comedies of the last ten years.

To think the Politics thread had some use, huh?

Tried to get into The Mighty Boosh, but I found it too silly.

I only liked the first series of Boosh really.

Agree about The IT Crowd, although the last series was a bit... 'eh. I can't actually remember much about it :/

The last sitcom I watched (which I never bothered with when it went out) was Green Wing. Which has some very funny moments. Completely mental, though - if you're not fond of weird crap then don't bother.

Compact Flash cards are usually better than SD due to the speed. I record video onto Compact Flash cards. SD is catching up, though. Memory Sticks and all of that other nonsense can blow me.

That's not how film works. A 120-minute 1.33:1 35mm movie will use just as much film as a 120-minute 2.40:1 35mm movie. On 1.85:1 movies (which is pretty close to the 16:9 aspect ratio) a lot of film is, in fact, wasted. Huge black borders are between each frame unless it is open-matte then you can see the microphones above their heads if the movie is projected with improper framing. 2.40:1 movies are anamorphically squeezed on the film with a 2:1 process and uses the entire available image area of a 35mm film print.

Yup, and a 1:1 (perfectly square) 32" TV would be even bigger than that. Nobody is saying that you must stick with a specific measurement. It just means you'll have to get more inches when you shop for a display. 4:3 is definitely not anywhere near square. Tip that baby on its side to play some Galactic Attack or some shit and a 4:3 TV suddenly seems very tall and skinny. That's just shapes for you. No big conspiracy. Humans see wider than they do tall so 16:9 displays offer a more natural viewing space but believe it or not they're still too narrow. They stuck with 16:9 due to the limitations/lack of reliability of a scanning CRT beam at the time. They were originally aiming for 1.85:1.

As for Facebook, I don't really get why people complain. If your friends are shitty, then yes, of course your experience with Facebook is gonna suck. This is the main reason why Google + sucks... nobody is on it! Plus it has fewer features than Facebook.

What do I hate that most others love?

    -FPS games

    -The Avengers

-Stan Lee and the rest of Marvel Comics

    -Windows computers

    -Joss Whedon

    -Alcohol

-The N64 AND Ocarina o' Time

    -?????

I personally like CF, but not in "consumer" stuff, the cards are expensive and you cannot really buy them from any random place. 4GB card with decent speed costs quite a lot of money, might aswell hook up a PC hard drive with external power supply to the camera (they are mostly compatible).

Thänks for the explanation on film roll ^^

Yes, smart people know you need more inches to get same/bigger screen, but people don't tend to know it... when I go to some average person and tell my 28" 4:3 is bigger than his/her 28" 16:9 then I'd be thought of as a lunatic... "it just is not possible, commercial says its BIG"
16:9 screen tipped on its side is even more skinnier, perfectly fine for writing programs and reading stuff, as you see a lot of text and don't have to scan left and right. 5:4 screens are closer to square than either 4:3 and 16:9.
Humans do see wider yes, but now you go at your HD monitor, you read this text here, stop for a moment, and then you realize only small portion in the middle of your view really matters, the rest is just blur you don't get much detail from. Then you go further away and blam, you cannot read the text anymore, not comfortably... going to cinema has similiar problem, you have this wide giant screen, and you constantly have to scan around it otherwise you miss out on something, and when you're in the back rows where you don;t have to scan around you'll be having detail issues and the screen area is not really a whole lot bigger than your typical TV at home... the more of the view is filled the more you got to scan around so I'm not really seething the point (as its on the other side of the view and I'm not paying attention to it ).
    now I want a monitor that does 2048 x 1536...

...and that reminded me... I hate flat CRTs... they tend to have funky image distortions and they're over 2x heavier than slightly curved CRTs of same size as much thicker glass is needed to keep the envelope from crushing in. Yesterday 2 strong men were struggling to bring in a 36" flat screen CRT to the repairshop. Next week me and my colleague have to lift it around, neither of us is a strong type... that thing weighs like 125kg

Quite right. But then again, I was always a fan of DC.

P.S: I don't hate Stan Lee himself, though.

Oh man, this is so true... I've got a nice flat screen CRT monitor and an Apple eMac (if you're confused, google it), but man are they ever heavy for their sizes! The monitor is also rather physically massive...
