Hahaha! Only half an hour? Then there is no reason why I shouldn't give it the old college try!

*pulls out "Technoclash" from SEGA Genesis*

Sorry Ronaan! Your feud with the machines will have to wait!

*plugs "Midnight Resistance" into SEGA Genesis*

Okay! Time to go Rambo and rescue my 16-bit family! Tally-ho!
The fictional character Gordon Gekko once stated,"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good". Gekko is sometimes unfairly judged. There is a big difference between maintaining one's moral compass in business and that which operates in one's personal life. In business, the reality is that if you are not willing to crush your competitor, you might as well get out of the game while you're still ahead.

I love Midnight Resistance. There's a lot of variety of enemies and bosses you'll face. The soundtrack is awesome and yeah there's slowdown there too.
    Babies...the unfortunate by-product of a good time.

That pretty much sums it up.

It is a bad arcade port. Data East did two good ones : Two Crude dudes and Joe & Mac.
The major flaw is the gameplay and indeed the game has poor animation with big slowdown.
I was very disappointed because I have played the arcade version. No 2 players mode.

Some guy named Chelnov wants to have a word with you.

    - Are you sure Joe & Mac is a good port ? From what I've heard the SNES version is supposed to be lightyears better.

Regardless, I gotta give it another try.

Yeah, Atomic Runner is definitely their best genesis offering, it's just awesome.
And he forgot Vapor Trail too. Pretty good port, with even better music.
    This thread needs more... ENGINEERS

I'm alright with Midnight Resistance, Two Crude Dudes, Atomic Runner, and Joe and Mac, I own them all and love playing them from time to time. Data East was a hit and miss company sure, but these games all were fine. Heck even High Seas Havoc from them is fun.

Also SNES Joe and Mac is a tad different from the Genesis and arcade iterations, stages were longer, some animations were cut out (Joe and Mac no longer go bug eyed when they meet a boss, there may be others I haven't spotted) so it felt like a slightly different experience.

Keep in mind friends, that some Genesis arcade ports were farmed out to obscure companies; Genesis MR was developed by Opera House for Data East.

And yeah, Genesis MR does have some nasty slowdown and flicker (so much for the 8 MEGA MEMORY), but I recall even the coin-op having it as well.

The SNES version of Joe & Mac is more of an extended platformer based loosely on the arcade source material while the Genesis rendition is a straight up conversion of the arcade original. The Genesis version is a beautiful translation that is nearly arcade perfect. I love Two Crude Dudes as well even though it's heavily watered down graphically from its arcade cousin.

Well all is said. Sorry I have forgotten Vapor Trail because I am not in the Shumps anymore.
I am tired when people says "Are you sure ? This better on the SNES". All games are not necesarly
better on the SNES. All the more it concerns arcade oriented games. "Different" would be the right word.

It's not a bad port. If you've ever played the arcade original you will notice the same amount of slowdown that is present in the Genesis version. The music is improved, so personally I prefer the Genesis version. I never got to experience the game on an actual cabinet with the 360 degree Ikari Warriors joysticks.

I think the Mega Drive port of Midnight Resistance is OK. I remember the coin-op machine had spinners so that you could rotate the gun. Even the coin op game was running a bit sluggish with slowdowns here and there and the framerate was rather 30 than 60 fps... Also, the Commodore 64 port was OK, probably very good for the C-64 standards. Spectrum port was nice but jerky... done in the usual attributes grid. I think the MD port is the best one... yep.
