Default Pirates! and Master of Monsters questions...

I have the chance of picking these two games pretty cheap. I know Pirates is a cult classic so it must be good (and a good choice for the "games for summer" thread I did a few weeks ago), but I don't know too much about Master of Monsters other than it's a strategy game, and couldn't gather much info from the forum. Are these recommended?

And the more important question I have is: Would this games work on a PAL European Megadrive with the region mod without any sort of an adapter?

I hate strategy games yet enjoy Master of Monsters quite a bit. It's easy to jump into, has a variety of maps, battery save, fantastic music, and quite a bit of replay value. Arguably better than the 32-bit update, since much of it was a step backwards in most aspects.

So, does anyone know if they work or not?

Not sure if they would work in a PAL system. some games would switch depending on the set region for the MD/Genny, others would not... so it might.

But Master of Monsters is a great game. I have had it for years and love it. It's basic as far as strategy games go, there won't be a huge amount of things to do if you're used to some more hardcore strategy games. Some maps can be quite challenging, others are a cake walk.

Pirates! Gold works fine on my modded European PAL Megadrive as long as the switch is set to Eng/60hz (Usa mode)

Trying to start the game on Eng/50hz mode (Euro mode) will result in a "Not for use in this region" kinda screen.

This guide is pretty useful for checking on region lockout stuff, though I don't think it's 100% comprehensive. It looks like Master of Monsters is region-free and Pirates! Gold is region-locked.

Well, it seems it is enough having the region switch for this games to work then. Thanks!

Master of Monsters is quite a cult fave in the genre. It's worth a look, and getting rarer as the months go by to boot.

Don't know, I don't have any imports nor experience with them.

I finally got them for 10€ each, probably because nobody buys Genesis games in Europe and no one was interested in them. Pirates Gold lacks the map but I'm not going to complain about it.

Too bad about the map, it is a pretty nifty extra, and personally I prefer having the map on hand to check where I am over having to switch back into the Menu to compare map and coastline. But then you can always download the map for the PC version over at replacementdocs, they are pretty much identical.
