You shouldn't be worried about a few megs. Your computer uses small amounts of space all the time.
    Is automatic updating turned off?

To turn off auto updates, go Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Under "Windows Update" press "Turn automatic updating on or off" > Under the drop-down menu, select "Check for updates but let me choose".
Windows will now ask you for permission, before it starts downloading stuff.

Also, turn off hibernation: Start > in the search bar, type "cmd" and right-click on the cmd.exe that comes up in the list, then select "Run as administrator" > in the command screen, type "powercfg -h off". This can give you back several gigs of space.

Because you were too dumb to understand how to not get a virus?

I've been using windows since Win95 and never got a virus simply because "i know what the fuck i'm doing"

and always those people with their "omg da virusses on da porn sites!!" hah I porn all the time and never got a virus.

FireFox + NoScript + up to date Windows + common sense = bliss.

Personally for me this whole thread reminds me of why there are still so many viruses, because there are still so many dumb people out there who don't understand how this shit works.

    Understanding = preventing.

I didn't have any issues with my computer for the longest time till now. I have things like adblock, virus scans weekly and keep my stuff up to date.

I am encountering a problem like this for the first time that's new to me. To fix something you need knowledge on what's making the problem & how to stop it. I am grateful for the help I am getting here towards a problem I've never had to deal with till now.

    Lol this.
Windows isn't for novice computer users, which is ironic, because the vast majority of computer users are "forced" to use it.

+1, at least the Linux part.
Yes I was too dumb to understand how to not get a virus. Its also cheaper. Four years later and I wouldn't go back.

You still really need to do some cleaning on that drive man, although as long as it's in the blue, you're good.

For my purposes it works great. I mainly use my computer for Ebay, pictures, music, movies, Avidemux, word processing, spreadsheets etc. I have used Wine for a few windows programs like Desktop Dyno and it worked fine but that is a fairly simple and old program. I'm not plan on playing WOW or Skyrim anytime soon so I can deal with that loss. I need a stone reliable OS for my business. I actually was dual booting for a while. I ended using windows so little that I deleted it and free up some need hard drive space.

Mmkay, true. Linux is good (extremely stable) for most basic stuff.

    Congrats, tb16.

What are you talking about, dude? You're just repeating what I said with your own words. I'm not suggesting to do a system restore with a backup of his files. I'm suggesting he deletes the shit out of everything he has by doing a complete (destructive) recovery.

Seems that you don't really know what you're talking about, no offense.

Is it still eating up space, tb16?
I wasn't talking about restoring to an earlier time as he was trying to do. You guys know exactly what I was talking about, but you decided to go around the subject. Complete (destructive) system recovery, reformatting computer. Name it what you will. That's what I've been suggesting from the beginning. It's just a suggestion, you don't have to be butthurt about it, no offense.
