If it's already at 0, your system should not be doing backups at all.

EDIT: Sorry, pressed quote instead of edit...

You might still have some old backups, so do what Olls said anyway.
(And it's good to turn of indexing and cleaning temp files anyway)

This will clean up all of your old backup files, temp files, etc. etc.

Now, turn off indexing: My Computer > right-click C: > Properties > Uncheck box that says "Allow indexing service blabla" > hit OK
To completely disable indexing: Start > Run > type "services.msc" and press Enter > scroll down to "Indexing Service" and double-click > If status is "Running" press "Stop". To make sure it doesn't run again, under "Startup Type" choose "Disabled".

Post here when you've done this and tell us what happened.
I hit a bump, I did steps, Start > Search > type ".bkf" but when typed .bfk it didn't find anything.

You're first step though gave me back 686MB of space back.

    Also try this:
    - open notepad
    - type:
    md D:\Downloads
    move %HOMEPATH%\Downloads\* D:\Downloads

Save it as fixdownloads.bat or something of the kind, and then you can double click it to run it.

That'll put all your downloads in a better place.

Yeah, you said you had Windows XP, so that's the steps for XP.

To remove old backups in Windows 7: Start > Control Panel > Under "System and Security" go to "Backup Your Computer" > If there is nothing there, except a "Set up Backup" and "Select Another Backup To Restore Files From" link then you don't have any backups and you don't need to do anything.
If there is a next and last date etc. there is a button below that named "Change Settings". Going to Change Settings > "View Backups" will show you a list of all backups made in the past. Click on them and click Delete.

Disregard my previous .bat file for moving shit... I forgot windows only moves the top level files.
Just move all that shit by hand.

Man the windows batch language sucks...

OILS I'm guessing there's nothing wrong in that department so following you're next step,

Now, turn off indexing: My Computer > right-click C: > Properties > Uncheck box that says "Allow indexing service blabla" > hit OK
Which option do I pick before clicking OK again?

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy this, then. You're going to try all this bull crap (no offense guys), and, short of buying a new computer, you're going to end-up doing exactly what I recommended.

It's understandable the need to be in denial here. But I've been in this position way too many times. Just do a complete system restore and be done with it.

What's a system restore and how does it help?

He doesn't have any, we've already established that.
If anything what he needs is to completely format his PC.

There is nothing to restore without backups.
Seems that you don't really know what you're talking about, no offense.

Is it still eating up space, tb16?

From all the scans, my computer should be healthy as fuck.

It's been staying at a solid 680MB for some time now. My normal use to be 2GB.

What you could do is turn off automatic Windows updates, so it doesn't fill up your disk without you knowing it. You probably lost some space to that, since you wrote it was updating Windows files the other day. Other than that, it seems fine now.
