I'd like a pie in the sky Street Fighter II SCE hack that runs at 320x224 replaces the SNES sprites with larger Genesis worthy sprites straight from the Arcade version with all of the animation. I'd also like the Sound engine to be replaced with Thunder Force IV's and the sample timing done right.

Thanks for the input, guys. It makes me think about a lot of things. I actually prefer the feel of the 3 button controller when I play the console. I use a CDX with Everdrive flash cart, so I play a lot of different SMS and 32X games as well on it.

... For any serious Genesis fan, I really think it's the only way to go.
I guess it's a matter of tastes. I find the 6-button pad to be too small in my hands. Of course, this wouldn't be an issue in my cabinet. It's only an issue of how often I play games that would benefit from it. And I really enjoy Ms. Pacman. Do you think I could just have the mode button constantly engaged? It seems unlikely otherwise there would be no need for a button at all. It sucks that it can't be triggered any time during the game rather than just at the boot.

My cab has a demo unit (DS-16) inside that rotates 6 different carts. Mostly it's older games like Golden Axe, Puyo Puyo 2, Flicky, etc. Rarely do I use fighters because honestly I don't think Genesis fighters were very good with the exception of SF2 (which is ok, but not the best). I'm not sure if I'd use them enough to crowd the control panel with 6 additional buttons.

A friend of Mine built his own Arcade cabinet as well. However, instead of using original hardware, he stripped apart an Old pc capable of Running MAME...
I've considered this too. I'm passively looking for a 19inch monitor and a decent MAME frontend. (I have had trouble figuring out how to use them.)

Every chance I've had to play a MAME cabinet, I've been very aware of it being emulation (simulated raster, yuck). For just fun, I've preferred and grown accustomed to my set-up. It starts up and shuts down instantly. I can switch between six games pretty fast (as fast as MAME).

And I think I missed out on the golden age of arcades, because I don't know a lot of the real arcade games. Many require vertical screens and therefore look "ugly" on my horizontal monitors. I'm really torn on how I feel about making that switch. Maybe I would need a separate cabinet for MAME if I go that route.

I once had a Pac-man cab with a dreamcast inside to play Ikaruga. I used a high quality VGA with the dreamcast VGA box. It was lovely. I used DCMame to play Donkey Kong and a few others, but I could only really enjoy vertical orientated games. So, eventually I got bored with it and sold it.

I'd like someone to make a hack of Street Fighter Zero that was on Snes for Genesis.

I don't know about champion edition but in SSF2 you can hold start before matches and remap controls on the fly.

Reason I know this is because i'm too impatient when waiting to kick in dhalsim's head.

This is the configuration that you want?

Yes, but it's the same config as the champion addition; it only let's you change the intensity. Punches and Kicks are still separated. Besides, SSF2 is just awful. SFCE is not great, but SSF2 is almost as bad as Street Fighter 2 for the Spectrum.

Yes. Are you making fun of my brutal, strong arm tactics or are you capable of making a hack?

You do realize that the genesis sprites are a downgrade from the arcade version right?

I agree the 3 button sf2 mapping is garbage and the game would be perfectly playable if you could press a button for heavy kick, heavy punch, and something else.

I'm pretty sure he's saying that he wishes there was a direct arcade port, specifically optimized for the Genesis, rather than what we got, which was actually based on the SNES SFII port (hence all the weird borders and shit).

Oh okay sorry I misread it. I fully agree, the only pre-32 bit era port I've seen that had graphics unchanged from the arcade was for the sharp 68k.

I don't find the music in either MD SF as grating as the inclusion of Greg Proops (or perhaps a relative / impersonator / clone :P) as the announcer-fella / Guile in SSF. "Sawnic Buuhm!"

They might have been when the SNES adaptation was made, but the Genesis game is obviously a port from the SNES version. I'd rather see the Arcade game done specifically to the Genesis, meaning 320x224 resolution, all of the Arcade background animation, character animations and scrolling layers, and a better timed stereo FM+PSG sample based sound engine.

Yeah sorry I misread your post haha. And I agree the genesis port could have been better. I'm sure the snes port could have been better too graphically. Sf2 32x....that would be a great port.

I'm pretty sure Super SF2 maxed the SNES out for that genre without add-on chips. Eternal Champions is more what the Genesis is really capable of, and Agostinho alerted me to the fact that Mortal Kombat 3 on Genesis has a better sound engine than either Eternal Champions or the SF2 games.

I also wish there was a Sega CD version of Street Fighter 2 to compare with, preferably one done by Sega like Final Fight CD. Samurai Shodown on Sega CD has nearly perfect sprites and animations to the NEO GEO version, and only suffers in the backgrounds, lack of background details and color. The 32X would have been complete overkill considering it still only displayed at 320x224, but yeah it should have been able to pull of a nearly perfect true port of the SF2 games.

Yeah I know sf2 got some cd based ports but I don't think the music was improved to the ungodly level of final fight sega cd or doom for the 3do (only the music, the gameplay of doom for the 3do doesn't look as good as it should be on youtube). I'm surprised samurai shodown cd was a near perfect port I've never looked it up (but I am looking it up now!). I know the 32x is overkill but I mean they ported mortal kombat 2 to the 32x.

I apologize for not being aware of a lot of the great ports on sega hardware I was a nintendo kid. I'm only just now discovering all these great sega games and systems since picking up the mega everdrive....thanks krikzz!! Now just fix the saving ability in certain games!

*edit* wow this music is pretty awesome in the segacd port of samurai shodown. The music in my samurai showdown 4 mvs cart isn't anywhere this cool....and that game's really fun....
