Why must every thread end up with:
a)pointless arguments about semantics
b)pointless and confusing techie discussion
c)pointless comparisons of irrelevant things
...or a combination? :P
This thread has ridiculous amounts of a) (e.g. what exactly is THE singular definition of "test of time"?) and c) ("let's compare the 16 bit Sonics, again, as if it's relevant somehow"). b) has not quite made it here yet, I think perhaps the thread should be closed before it does.
It still makes more sense than the part where he said "Bubsy is better than most other games".
I figured it out!
does not -> doesn't

Gohl Darnit, and I still don't understand what went wrong in here.
Yeah I often have trouble appreciating the colors of S3&K (mostly the Sonic 3 part, especially Launch Base, & probably Carnival Night).
What went wrong with the colors of parts of S3&K? Is it just poor / questionable art direction?
Well said.
I also always thought Sonic 1 had the best aesthetics, the best art direction & music, while Sonic 2 is almost as good aesthetically, but with improved gameplay. Sonic 1's art, colors, & music are unique & polished, with great gameplay, so it's a classic that holds up forever.
Green Hill Zone is probably the best-looking zone of all the 16-bit Sonic games, and has a dream-like feel to it. Dancing flowers, the sounds of waterfalls, and the psychedelic colors of a dark blue / purple sky, and glowing blue water. GHZ is amazing.
If Sonic 1 passed the test of time? A big YES.
Graphics, sound and gameplay are still awesome, IMO anyone thinking otherwise may be suffering from heavy memory loss, the solution: play the game![]()
In general, 2d graphics games age much better than 3d graphic games, at least the early ones. So in that regard, yeah, Sonic has passed the test of time. But its not even comparable to todays game. Games made 20 years ago and games made today are so completely different, even if they are the same genre.
I find retro games really difficult, because ive gotten so used to being able to continue indefinetly, or save progress much more conveniently etc.. That may also be a test of time, if general difficulty is in question.
