Remindful of Mega Man 1, perhaps a bit harder, with an oblique touch of the later health system in the usage of multiple party members.

This is actually a good list. Guardian Legend's a fine #1 for the sort of person who doesn't belong to a gaming forum, though to fulfill both parametres SCAT would be by far the best choice. It and Gunnac are killers but of course Gunnac has so much collector cachet it's not too obscure anymore.
Krazy Kreatures though is just terrible, as in GTFO terrible. Also it's hard to overlook a game that comes in a bright pink box.

Is Fire n' Ice related to the animated soft porn flick?

The Lone Ranger is really neat, very unique game, I need to play it more. I'm going to have to sample Captain America and the Avengers, if it's actually a good unique game I'd be very keen on it.

Fun fact, Whomp 'em is actually Saiyuki World 2. Saiyuki World is the famicom port of Wonderboy in Monster Land. Whomp 'em is the english localization of a sequel to Wonderboy in Monster Land.

Totally overlooked game. Really awesome. Feels like a mix of Mega man and Wonderboy in Monster Land.

Hehehe, that would be pretty rad if it were. It's the sequel to Solomon's Key and Solomon's Club.

Fire N' Ice is awsome (both the game and the flick :J ) The game though is this awesome puzzle game that Taito made only about three copies of. So it's kind of rare and expensive. It's definitely worth looking up the rom for though.

Also, in hindsight I should have put Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu somewhere on that list. I can't believe I left it off, especially considering I've had it since I was a kid.

I don't find mike that annoying, he is a little bit yes but he's not that bad. it could be worse.

There are so many underrated NES games!

Where is Mighty Final Fight though? That game gets no love. Excellent shootoff of the Final Fight series for NES. I'd say Darkwing Duck is a pretty underrated game as well when everyone remembers Ducktales and Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers. Great Capcom-developed Mega Man clone.

And yet Fire N' Ice tops the list? That's lame.

Fire N' Ice tops my list . I agree the NES has tons of playable stuff. There was a butt ton of stuff I had to leave off. I tried to pick games that people wouldn't even really consider and intentionally stayed away from stuff that had any real brand recognition. If I had it to do over I would probably swap out Kirby's Adventure with Jackie Chan.
