Sheesh I never noticed you posted because our usernames are so similar I kept thinking it my my username listed as the last person who posted..

You don't have to use the regular sonic 1-up sound but just something...louder would be nice. Also how did you add all the new code into the game?

I could see how having to look at the shields all the time might be annoying from the programmer's point of view when you're looking at the levels over and over. Though I think for the casual players it's weird to have a shield and not know it's there until you take a hit. Also, not everyone is good enough at this that they'll make it to the end with shield intact lol. I don't know, maybe I'm focusing on it too much but it really weirds me out, I'm so used to Sonic games having shields. Not seeing one there is like having a dog that meows, something about it is just off lol.

And yeah, I see what mean about the other stuff. I could see how programming some of those things could be a real pain. Although I find it odd that the emerald noise would glitch. I mean it's already in the original rom. The original programming for it must be weird.

As for the main feature in Hyperdrive, I'd say is fuckin Kirby, I mean seriously he kicks ass, especially now that he eats stuff. And seeing him in a Sonic game is just so insane.

The Emerald noise for the Giant Ring will glitch by jumpdashing through it at the exact time the results screen loads, resulting a freeze.

Who cares...all I want is to be able to see my protective orb and hear the 1-up music / sfx! Or even better..would it be possible to hack an option in the options menu to disable / enable such features?

That won't happen, same with the sequel. also is not that hard using your brain to know w/e you have the shield or not, plus a 1up sound does not alter the gameplay at all. (therefore, not important.) I did thought about having a option to see the shield sprite before, but I forgot about it, before releasing it. plus I did say this is the final version. =P

Yeah, but it doesn't mean I'll make another version. the reason I update is because there's a lot of flaws that's needed to be fixed, and for my satisfaction, mostly the levels. :V

Fair enough. It's your baby after all. So are you completely satisfied with this latest version?

Right but obviously having these options is a popular idea so being able to activate them wouldn't be so terrible would it? I've been listening to a fan of my street fighter 2 arcade hack and implementing all the doable ideas he comes up with that aren't terrible.

Also I posted a revision of my arcade hack as the "final version" even eventually *frrt* a new version came out. Luckily I number my releases (version 4, 5, 6). So I changed it to "the final version 5"

From now onward I'm just going to post for my hack as being a "neverending WIP that gets updated at completely random times....may even take years for a single update". However the stuff I did isn't nearly as difficult as what you've managed to pull off.

The way I see it is: if adding the ability to enable / disable a feature isn't too difficult, then why not? If adding an option to enable / disable these things in the options menu is too hard that's fine I completely understand. If adding the features permanently isn't hard I would just release two versions so people can choose. I mean you can always hack your own personal version for how you like it but have the public release be more of what the public likes, not like you would have to play it. People like options and people like customization. I've got people really interested in a program that would let them customize the pallette of characters, physics and other things in sf2 arcade. And honestly...I think that's a GREAT idea! I'm glad I've inspired such an idea! I just wouldn't want to see your awesome hack get ignored because of a few preference related issues that people aren't able to switch on / off. People are picky, so I think it's good to let them have a little freedom. As a n00b rom hacker myself I can tell that your hack is nothing but the best and I'd really love to see it thrive.

I understand, but for me, there are some features that are needed to change so it won't look like the same game with different levels, like the Walljump because I love that certain move and makes the gameplay unique, sorta like MMX. I'll keep the other ideas like making the shield sprites optional in the sequel.

Great thanks. Ironically the wall jump really turned me off from megaman x, suddenly half of the challenge was gone. But in a hack wall jumping doesn't bother me so much haha. I am very interested in how you added these features, did you disassemble the rom?

Yup, a disassembly, Sonic Retro ftw.

I need to find a disassembler for 68k stuff so I can improve on my street fighter 2 arcade hack, any recommendations where I can get one?

    *edit*

Nevermind haha. I was having a conversation with tiido he says to get the code to the point where you can reprogram and reassemble it would take a massive amount of effort

Bump, I decided to rework on this hack one last time, plus a preview on what's stored for next year's release.

    (lul, copypasted from vid description)
As you can see here, the Walljump gimmick has been disabled (this means level designs will be reworked), and I've coded a Hyper Sonic style Jumpdash for Metal Sonic, I've also updated half of the Metal Sonic sprites and added Chaotix Monitors. Eggtropolis is my completely new work-in-progess level over Floating Ruins, mainly because it's a boring level lol. I also have plans for replacing Green Hill Zone (Star Light replacement). Version 3.0 aka FINAL Final version will be released next year around May or October.

the reason I removed the Megaman X style Walljump gimmick for this hack is because it's not fast paced and doesn't fit quite right for a Sonic engine so the gameplay will be alot like the retro 2D Sonic games with a tiny bit of a"modern" feel to it. (or basically, Sonic CD)
(only Darkon can walljump since hes the slowest powerful character of the game)
V3.0 will seriously be the last revision for this hack (NO BULLSHIT).

    Credits:
    KCEXE - New Music
Vladikcomper - Enemy into Ring (V2.0 only for Sonic, will be removed in V3.0)
Hcktrox - Menu, Music, and Splash Screen sourcecode.
    Nineko - Music
CS and Yuski - Metal Sonic Sprites
    Quricodoido - Music
    GHFusion - Knuckles Chaotix Music
    Mercury - Walljump sourcecode
Esrael - Sonic 2 Level Select
    MarkeytheJester - Sonic Crackers Music
    Marioguru64 - Somari sprites
Selbi - Super Peel out sourcecode
Tweaker - Sonic 2 clone sounddriver
    robivy64 - Hardware testing
