Well this is interesting. I just figured the EA games had a battery in them... since I only have sports ones. I never tried to open a Genesis cart before.
I could be wrong, but I didn't think EA had to "get around" the TMSS. After those initial three releases, they got their licensing deal. Accolade, on the other hand, reverse engineered the TMSS and continued to release unlicensed games, resulting in Accolade v. Sega. The Appeals court ruled in favor of Accolade, ruling that their circumvention was fair use.
