Wing Commander was 1991 and not FMV, are you talking about Wing Commander 3? If so then I sort of understand the regret, I always greatly preferred the first two sprite-based Wing Commander games to their FMV sequels.

Though to their credit Wing Commander 3 and 4 are two of the best FMV games around, mostly by virtue of having real actors, an actual budget, and the fact they were also decent enough space sims.

The Sega CD game is a port of Wing Commander 1 only all of the dialogue is voiced. It's the only version of the game that does that. Even the CD version of Wing Commander 2 on the PC doesn't have as much voice work in it. It's a neat oddity just not terribly fun to play on the Sega CD because it's pretty slow and doesn't control well.

Yes it is. I bought back when it was released. Had hundreds of hours worth of fun with the game.

Great suggestions here. I've only recently started getting into SCD games and I'll admit, I never have been fond of FMV. Got a few gems on the way, Robo Aleste and Heart of the Alien. Just started Popful Mail also! Eventually I'll get around to more FMV games out of pure curiosity...

I won't throw out a large list (that was done months ago when the thread was new), but these are ones that stand out for me, and also withstand the test of time:

Android Assault: Great visuals, fantastic soundtrack, tight gameplay, lots of weapons, and it's not *#&$-tarded hard. It's a very polished game that is easily accessible, and I'd go so far to say it's one of the best shmups of the 16-bit generation.

Lords of Thunder: Port of the DUO game. The original version is clearly better in several ways (more scrolling in the backgrounds, suicide bullets on the hardest skill mode), but I prefer how your sword is overpowered in the Sega CD version (it actually holds a use now, heh), and the re-recorded soundtrack sounds much better to my ears and much less "garage" sounding than the DUO version. Both versions are worth owning in my opinion.

Flink: This is a game I knew about for a while, but only as of this past week have I put some serious time into it. I won't say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's definitely above average. It's a side-scrolling platformer with your usual elements like hopping on enemies, but it also has this spell system where you can gather ingredients, and you can figure out how to combine them to create different types of attacks. The game is pretty tough though, and I don't know why the developers did this, but it has no saving, and you get LIMITED continues. There are 60-some-odd stages, so it's especially "tough" in the way that you will only get SO far before running out of continue options (unless you figure out how to get to the hidden stage where you can keep re-upping your lives). Still, if you put in the time and practice to get familiar with it, it will be a lot of fun.

YES AND YES!!!!! This, in my opinion, is the best video game soundtrack of all time. I have tried so damn hard for the past 15 years to find Chris Stephens . I want more. I NEED MORE!!!

Wing Commander 3 is a fully polygonal 3D space shooter, just because it has live actor cutscenes doesn't make it an FMV title. If FMV cutscenes makes a game an FMV title then most of the PS1 and PS2 library is FMV.

Anyway, here is a list of Sega CD games into the Ls that have been recommended by gamers online for gameplay related reasons, I omitted the FMV titles for this list. I need to work on the rest of the library.

Black Hole Assault 1992 Bignet (Great early showpiece for CD-ROM cutscenes)
Adventures of Willy Beamish, The 1993 Dynamix
    AH3 Thunderstrike 1993 JVC
Amazing Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin... 1993 Sega
Batman Returns 1993 Sega (Just for the Scaler levels)
Cliffhanger 1993 Sony (Just for the Scaler levels)
    Ecco the Dolphin 1993 Sega
    Final Fight CD 1993 Sega/Capcom
    Jaguar XJ220 1993 JVC
Jurassic Park 1993 Sega (Point and Click Adv)
    Keio Flying Squadron 1993 JVC
    Lethal Enforcers 1993 Konami
Lunar: The Silver Star 1993 Working Designs
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons:... 1994 FCI
Android Assault:The Revenge of... 1994 Big Fun Games
    Battlecorps 1994 Time Warner
    BC Racers 1994 Time Warner
    Bouncers 1994 Sega
Brutal: Paws of Fury 1994 GameTek
    Dark Wizard 1994 Sega
    Dune 1994 Virgin
Flashback: The Quest for Identity 1994 US Gold
Flink, The Misadventures of 1994 Vic Tokai
Formula One: Beyond the Limit 1994 Sega
Heart of the Alien 1994 Virgin
Lethal Enforcers II: Gunfighters 1994 Konami
    RDF Global Conflict 1994 Absolute
Adventures of Batman & Robin,... 1995 Sega
Dungeon Explorer 1995 Hudson Soft / Sega
Earthworm Jim Special Edition 1995 Playmates
Eternal Champions: Challenge From... 1995 Sega
    Fatal Fury Special 1995 JVC
    Lords of Thunder 1995 Sega
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue 1995 Working Designs

My personal favorites are as follows:

Dungeon Explorer - Rediculously underrated game It is a Gauntlet clone that I believe is better than Gauntlet. It's the most enjoyable when playing with friends, and by the way it is up to 4 players. IMO the best multiplayer game for the Sega CD and an amazing game overall! Warning it is very very difficult but the fun outweighs the difficulty

Sonic CD - A classic and the perhaps the most recognizable Sega CD game, if you like Sonic you will LOVE this game. It combines speed and stradegy to feel more like the first one if you want speed but also like Sonic 3 + Knuckles if you want deep gameplay with Past, Present, and Future scenes for each stage with futures to make good and time stones to collect this game is one hell of a ride. One of the best on the Sega CD.

Silpheed - A super cool 2.5D shooter that is really original and a must for any Sega CD owner to try. It gets difficult very fast but matched with awesome rockin' 80s style music, this difficulty can be overcome. If you like shooters you should like this game. I personally like it much more than others who review it and I think it is worth playing!

Popful Mail - An awesome side-scrolling platformer that introduces RPG elements like leveling up and upgrading weapons, it provides for a rich and full gaming session. The story line is quirky and fun and so are the characters. It is just the right amount of fun and challenge. I love this game!

Lunar (Both of them) - Two amazing turn-based RPGs that give Final Fantasy games a run for their money. These are deep and just amazing games that provide the full RPG experience for fans of the genre. I prefer these over the Shining Force games and am a huge fan of the series. A must for anyone who likes turn-based RPGs!

Android Assault - The best horizontal shmup on the Sega CD and an amazing game! It has one of the best soundtracks on the system and is just an absolute powerhouse of fun. It screams of the 80s with the guitar heavy soundtrack and pushes you on as you play through the beautiful game. Really makes you think why they didn't just make more games like this on the Sega CD!

There are many more but these are just some personal favorites out of what I am playing now. As you can tell I am a huge Sega CD fan and all of these are personal recommendations from one non-fmv Sega CD gamer to another. Have fun!

It always gets under my skin to see people's lists and no mention of Soul Star.

In my defense, I only made it to the Ls.
