Default Super Mario 64 costs far too much

I just got back from the flea market, wanting to get Super Mario 64 or Mario Kart. I found the games, but came back empty handed.

I absolutely refuse to pay $20 for Mario and $30 for Mario Kart. That's insane! It's not a rare game, it's a highly common game, and I'm not into paying a lot of money for a game just because of the mascot it contains. I mean, when new these games likely didn't cost much different.

Am I wrong to refuse to pay those prices?

Prices aren't necessarily set by availability. They're set by demand. Clearly there is a demand for such a seminal and quality N64 game if they can expect to sell it for that much.
    A retarded Sonic.

I like the game and all, but not $30 enough.

it's not like they are selling the game though either, it's been sitting there for at least a year.

That's pretty crazy for flea market pricing. You probably could've talked him down a bit but still.

SNES and N64 games have really been going up in recent years whether the price is warranted or not. Mario 64 seems to be around $15 online with Kart around $20.

Welcome to the world of Nintendo, where everything's overpriced and the fans are in constant circle jerk.

Yeah, because hours of chatter, hours of cutscenes and lots of QTEs are so much better than playing a proper videogame.

Yeah, that's exactly what's going on here.

Eh, you're giving the seller too much credit. Mario 64 typically sells for about $10 to $15 in standard ebay auctions. It's just a case where a know-nothing reseller is setting his own price on a game without knowing what it's actually worth.

Eh, while Nintendo games are definitely some of the more inflated given that some of them are so ubiquitous and easy to find, this is starting to become a problem with retro gaming as a whole in recent years.

Yeah, people saw the expensive games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Stadium Events, etc. and are now trying to make every game into a golden egg.

So buy it from ebay instead and feel warm and fuzzy inside. I found some local video game stores that just wanted to rape people for import stuff. The pc engine nothing special edition with a crappy box...200-300$.....the super famicom nothing special edition...200$. That's why I just started buying online.

I actually can't believe some people try to sell VMUs for so much!
Seriously, 20 or even 15$ ? Wayyy too much, that's 8$ brand new, boxed on eBay!

I remember my favorite retro-store that closed, they were awesome, but sometimes, the prices were ridiculous: 24.99$ for a used VMU, you kidding me?

    First rule of business:

If you can sell it for a certain price, sell it for that price. You can really only undercut yourself if you are selling at high volume.
