Default Street Fighter 2 Arcade ROM Hacking

I've been romhacking the sf2 arcade roms in my spare time.

Latest version of my more serious hack:

*edit* updated to the latest release.

    The non serious hack

Proof that this stuff runs on an real capcom arcade board:

Some funny hacks that I didn't include in my releases:

That's exactly what the real game looks like when you're on LSD.

It looks like some of the palettes have become corrupted. Gameplay wise it looks like you made it so every super move shoots fireballs and you made the game hilariously broken.

Retooled bison, chun li, and dhalsim. Took out some of the stupid stuff and made things a little more fun and balanced. Did some pallette upgrades as well. Here's a playthrough with the new bison

Rainbow edition is a champion edition hack. Most of the old sf2 hacks are champion edition but there were a few world warrior hacks. World warrior has the rom data spread out differently so hacking world warrrior seems to be way more work. I've seen pictures of a hacked world warrior board and it looks like they replaced every single rom on the board. Champion edition / turbo (actually turbo is a hacked up champion edition) have just 3 separate roms that contain all the programming for the game. This's why hacking CE is so much more popular you just reburn 1-2 (3 at most) roms and you're good to go...unless you want to hack the actual graphics or music.

Also champion edition already has all the bosses implemented and a lot of other things so it's more appealing to hack CE.

Anything is possible but this was easier to do because existing hacks already existed so I could just use the existing CE hacks to reverse engineer the roms and learn how to alter them myself. Also I prefer CE.

Well I won't stop you from making that. I honestly never expected my hack to go this far...and this's from borrowing code that some other hackers made. I'm really curious if the original hackers disassembled the code or already had a copy of the source code. I somehow doubt they managed to reprogram all these things using just hex editing.

Links are on my forum apparently here they don't want me posting a romlink of a hack of a 20 year old game..

    http://consolemods.forumotion.ca/t78...ng-arcade-hack

Normally I don't like having to self promote my forum but it seems I'm the only person who doesn't think capcom is going to try to shut me down.

I would make an IPS patch but the problem is:

This romhack is big, you're patching three different romfiles.

The sf2ce.zip has many different versions floating around the internet thanks to mame constantly changing what it's expecting. Therefore making a universal patch is impossible.

Emulators (including mame) need a separate zip filename for hacks. An IPS patch would only apply my hack not actually change the zip filename.

Making an IPS patch for a console game is easy because the rom will be just one file and it won't be zipped. Making an IPS patch for an arcade rom is basically impossible since the game is stored in multiple roms in a zipfile, and the mame zipfiles keep changing for some silly reason so each rom zip has multiple versions floating around the internet.
