Default Model 1 VA6 RF Connector

I few months back I purchased a NES Top Loader and was recommended to pickup a RF cable and connector at Radio Shack that would perform better than the official NES one. I ditched the Top Loader but kept the cable. Today while messing around and comparing my VA7 and VA6 Model 1s with the component cables I pulled out the RF and noticed that the VA6 looked not so bad. All my VA6s exhibit the rainbowbands to some extent. Not as bad as the VA3s but still there are "jailbars" apparent on some black, blue, or grey backgrounds while hooked up through component. They are gone with the RF. Completely! The VA7 looked terrible through the RF but better through the component than the VA6. That said, the VA6 sounds and looks really good through the RF. Anyone else playing through just RF?

I still think my VA4 model 2s look best. But this was a nice surprise.

Genesis with component setup correct, should compare favorably side by side on a CRT to Wii VC versions. Component rivals RGB in clarity potential.

If you've been reading this board recently... The composite/RF/s-video color subcarrier leads to one type of jailbars in the RGB output of affected Master System and Genesis consoles.
These remain intact when using RGB as the video source for a component box or mod.
32X ignores them. It won't add more yet makes no attempt to help.

    1. What does this have to do with the OP?
    2. Your misuse of commas confuses me.
    3. I now have Lum no Love Song in my head because of your avatar...

Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing rainbowing/colour branding/jailbaring on RF either.

I use RF, but I'm not using the Genesis RF modulator. It sucks badly.. I use a Blonder Tongue AM60-550.. These "were" used to broadcast when analog TV was still around. This was THE modulator to use because it had the best picture quality possible from a baseband (composite) signal, sometimes even improving it.

In the case of the Genesis, it lends it's hand a little, but not enough because it still has the odd Genesis NTSC artifacts, but in some games, DOES expose the dithering (like in streets of rage, the level where the lighting is dithered in the bar), whereas straight Composite Genesis video wouldn't show this.

Just a screen grab of Sonic and Knuckles title screen.. Yes, my old tube has a LOT of overscan.. Nothing I can help, no POTS for position or size, except vertical size, but the vertical is already set to the correct aspect ratio.

The OP mentioned component and jailbars. YPbPr video out of an SMS or Genesis will have jailbars if converted from RGB that contains them.

I used one comma to make one sentence read easier.

Lum no Love Song? Well I haven't heard that lately. I've been doing other things.

Well, mostly I made that post as an excuse to post my favourite Urusei Yatsura song.

Yeah I'm looking to sell my Urusei Yatsura items. Seen enough of it. But that's WAY off topic.

    Continuing the off topic-ness...

Enjoyed the rendition of that song, I wish I'd picked up more of the DVDs before AnimeEigo or whoever stopped printing them. I watching a huge amount of the series on VHS back in the day through rentals.
