    Default 32x Looks Real Good!

I finally got one. Having owned a Genesis since 1991 I figured it was time I picked one up. Now I'm new to the 32x library but I'm loving how it makes my regular Genesis games look. Gone are all the rainbowbands and verticle bars on certain blue and black backgrounds on my Model 1. It actually makes my VA6 model one look as good if not better than my stock Model 2 VA4.

Anyone leave their's hooked up at all times? Any long term damage to the Genesis? Maybe I should get a second Model 1 to back up my childhood console.

I leave my 32x wired up all the time and havn't had any trouble from that. And I agree the video out of the 32x is fantastic. Here's a capture of the s-video coming out of the 32x I modded:

Running on a va6 model 1 genesis. When I picked up the 32x I hadn't found much documentation on the internet showing it being such a wonder for improving the video quality of genesis games. I hope my video provides so good hard proof that it's completely true.

My 32X has been plugged into my Genny for 16.5 years now - no issues.

I've left my 32X hooked up at all times since I bought it in 1994 for this very reason, it does enhance Genesis video especially on the Genesis 1's with the great stereo headphone ouput. I did some shots on it a while back, let me see if I still have them.

there's no long term damage in having a 32x hooked up to a genesis at all times. i've had my 32x hooked up to my model 1 genesis since 1997 and there's been no problems.

32x does improve non-RGB video signals.

What 32x mods are you guys referring to, though? As far as I remember I just plugged my normal Genesis S-Video cable into the 32X. (This was before I ran my Genesis/32X/CD in RGB.)

    This:

It eliminates the need to externally encode the rgb into s-video. It also produces better looking s-video than externally encoding the rgb since the internal video encoder is already tweaked for genesis / 32x video.

    Unfiltered s-video from the 32x:

unfiltered s-video from the va6 model 1 genesis:

I know these pictures don't look too different but that's because I came up with a revised s-video circuit for the genesis that greatly improves the quality. Still even with the revised s-video circuit in my genesis the 32x has a noticably cleaner picture.

That makes it all the more disappointing 32x does *nothing* for rgb. If mainly to Europeans out there.

I don't think I'll buy a capture card. Wouldn't use one enough myself, just space and money tossed away for 5 seconds of internet bragging.

Do they even make RGB capture cards?

I bought my capture card before I started modding just so I could record gameplay videos. I found a way to record 60 fps out of my 12$ capture device. Turns out it's also useful for looking at video interference.

My capture card the av cables recently started to bite the dust but that little thing has served me so well for so long that I just removed the av cables, hard wired some new cables in and built it all into a case so nothing will ever come loose again. It's just been an awesome investment both for casual recordings and serious stuff to demonstrate hardware modifications.

I have noticed a quality difference using component cables out of the 32X as opposed to the Genny as well.

Could you share with us the make and model of your capture device?

My selling thread, a loose Suikoden II, lots of PS1 stuff, a sealed Primal Rage 32X, a CIB SMS system and more!

do you mean composite? component if encoded from rgb, while obviously far superior to composite overall, still has the same vertical bars that rgb does.
