Default Took a game shopping trip to Japan (video)

As the title says, I took a trip to Japan to go game shopping. I decided to take a lot of video to show people what it's like. It's pretty crappy quality, but I did my best with what I had. If you have time to kill or are interested in what Japanese game shops (and roads, heh heh) look like, give it a look.

    It's nearly 2.5 hours.

Thanks for posting this! I don't expect to visit Japan anytime soon, but it is always fun to dream.

I'm going to taiwan next year but I told me japanese friends to come visit us in taiwan. There's way too much xenophobia in japan for my liking. Hope you enjoyed your trip, I'm fine with just buying my import games online.

I was supposed to go to Japan the year before last. Instead I joined a failing non-profit that was 6 weeks from bankruptcy to help stabilize it. Another board member and the remaining staff member promptly went on vacation...

Still a little sore about that. But hopefully I'll be finally making the trip some day soon. I've got a long list of things to look for. Wondermega, indigo gameboy player, gameboy light, cowboy bebop laserdiscs, etc.

Just another reason to visit Japan.

Why must they taunt us with such video game stores?

We should arrange a Sega-16 Field Trip to Japan to shop in the used game stores.

Have you been there? Don't let something like that stop you from going. I have never had a problem. Perhaps the older generation is still this way, but I don't hang out with old people. In my years of living in Japan prior to moving back to the US, I never had a problem. If you are Taiwanese, then it will work in your favor since Japanese tend to like Taiwanese people.

I'm not taiwanese I'm white, my girlfriend is taiwanese. A lot of japanese people (mostly young) visit my city to study english. I've met plenty of japanese visitors here and they all seemed afraid to become friends with me. I've even had a japanese online friend come out here and meet me and still it didn't go too well. Japanese culture annoys me I can't stand people who won't give me a truthful answer. I just don't seem to get along with japanese people so it's just not the right place for me, I'm sure japan's great for a lot of other people.

I usually like most things about Japan, but yes, the racism is real, wether you percieve it or not. And the utter fear of disgrace by being truthful is a big problem for me as well. I can not handle people who wont tell me whats on their mind, wether its offensive or not (i can deal with offensive) simply because they have such an urge to be "polite", nor can i conform to not tell THEM what is on my mind whilst not trying to be UNpolite. So that could very much be an issue for me in japan. Not that you necessarily get into deep discussions with strangers who might not even speak english very well, but still its a problem. The culture is so very different in japan, compared to sweden. especially since sweden is becoming more like usa, boastfull and bragging, compared to the "reserved" style we used to have.

Other than that, i would also like to go there sometime in the future, just to check out all the wierd themed stores and coffee shops etc they have over there. And of course the rich heritage of old japan.
