    ^ yes.

The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

I gotta say that this is one of the worst reviews of Sega-16; it feels like the reviewer got frustrated with the difficulty of game or something and didn't took the time to sink his/hers teeth into the game.

To dismiss this solid game as being just average with the "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" fame is, quite honestly, an error.

Kollision covered Zero Wing on his blog and he did a much better job IMO.

    Also:
Thankfully, we don’t hear as much guitar in this game as in Fire Shark, where it sounded horrible
    That's just blasphemy.

I'm pretty sure anybody that actually thinks that, never really sat down with it, and has just made that assumption based off of the meme.

Yeah the game is better than what the review says.

Solid oldskool shooter (1989 initially) with good gameplay; nice level-design & rocking soundtrack. In short : rather a 8/10 IMO.

Also i never cared about the "All your base..." since i play the Japanese version but this famous translation is a fun thing.

I have this game and is DOES have parallax scrolling.
The Mega Drive version of Zero Wing of course has parallax. It's the PC Engine CD version which, again, doesn't have parallax &, as consequence, is dreadfully bland.

Then, compared to the Arcade version, the Mega Drive one has less parallax but on other hand its music sound WAY better! The MD port also has others advantages, i'll post some comparison content later...

But in this case the Arcade original already doesn't have parallax BUT that wasn't a reason for not having added some since there are Mega Drive ports of Arcade games which add parallax during the transition like Altered Beast or Uchū Senkan Gomora.

I like Zero Wing myself, but there are those that actually do play these games well that still think it's kind of mediocre.

In fact, I seem to remember one of the translated Toaplan interviews where the designer even admitted that the idea didn't work as well as it could have.

It has an awesome OST on MD though, far better than the arcade original as SpaceHarrier mentioned. Great guitar going on there.
