    Default 2 player co-op games

This might have been a thread before, but I searched and nothing came up...

So I softmodded my girlfriend's Wii and put tons of roms on the thing. We've been having fun playing games, but the ones we have the most fun in are the 2 player co-op style. I'm looking for more, for pretty much any system (Genny, sms, nes, snes, and tg-16 are all on there. Sega's my fav tho.). Any suggestions?

Girls love Streets of Rage, so I recommend Streets of Rage 1, 2 and Bare Knuckle 3.
Golden Axe 1, 2, 3 and Alien Storm
    Gunstar Heroes
    Contra (J)
    World of Illusion
    Circus Mystery
    Aero Blasters (Air Buster)
    Bio-Hazard Battle
    Sonic 2 & 3
    Rolling Thunder 2
    Blades of Vengeance

Some others to try out since you've got them all at your fingertips. (Excuse the heavy editing I was adding games as they come to me.)

    Genesis:

    Toejam and Earl
    Bonanza Brothers
    NBA Jam: Tournament Edition
    Sunset Riders
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Hyperstone Heist
Soldiers of Fortune (AKA The Chaos Engine)
    General Chaos
    Battletoads and Double Dragon
    Gain Ground
    X-Men 2: Clone Wars
Battletech (One person controls the legs, one person controls the turret. It usually doesn't end well but is fun for laughs.)

    NES:

    Contra
    Bubble Bobble
    Jackal
River City Ransom (Possibly the best NES co-op title)
    Battletoads
    Life Force
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, 3

    SNES:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
Firepower 2000 (My girlfriend loves this one.)
Sunset Riders (Different from Genesis, probably better version to be honest, though the Genny has its moments.)
    Zombies Ate my Neighbors
    Contra III: Alien Wars
    Super Smash TV
    Final Fight 2, 3 (1 has no 2 player)
    Knights of the Round
Donkey Kong Country 2 (I know DKC is a bad word around here but still.)
    Goof Troop
    Kirby Super Star (Certain games)
    King of the Dragons
    Wild Guns

Co-op games? As in the work together and not compete with each other (as in not Street Fighter 2 or Bomberman)?

It really does depend on what sort of games that you like, whether it is action or puzzle but I give a long list (it's not complete but it is from what I can remember):

    Adventures of Batman and Robin*
    Aero Blasters/Air Buster
    Alien Storm
    Altered Beast
The Battle of Red Cliffs# (Chinese)
    Battletoads
    Battletoads and Double Dragon
    Body Count (Europe/Brazil)
Bonanza Bros. (personally I prefer the arcade, PS2 and the Sharp X68000 versions but the Genesis version is the most well known port)
    Captain America and the Avengers
    Contra Hard Corps
    Crack Down
    Dinosaurs for Hire
    Double Dragon
Double Dragon II - The Revenge# (bad slowdown)
    Double Dragon 3 - The Rosetta Stone#
    Forgotten Worlds
    Gain Ground
    Gauntlet IV
    Ghost Hunter (Chinese, Pang clone)
    Golden Axe 1,2,3
    Gunstar Heroes*
    Joe and Mac: Caveman Ninja
    Mystical Fighter
    Power Rangers: The Movie
    The Punisher
    Rolling Thunder 2
    Second Samurai (Europe only)
    Shadow Blasters
Shui Hui Feng Yun Zhuan (Chinese)*
    Skeleton Crew
    Snow Bros.
Soldiers of Fortune (The Chaos Engine)*
Sonic 3 and Knuckles (not in an usual way, player 2 can play as Tails if the Sonic & Tails option is chosen)
    Spider-Man and Venom: Separation Anxiety
Streets of Rage 1*,2* Bare Knuckle III
    Super Bubble Bobble (Chinese)
    Super Smash TV
Sunset Riders (other versions are better)
    TMNT - The Hyperstone Heist
    T2 - The Arcade Game
Wonder Boy III - Monster Lair# (other versions are better, in 2 player it can be unplayable due to bad slowdown)
World of Illusion starring Mickey and Donald (exclusive stages if played in 2 player)*
    The Yang Warrior Family (Chinese)
    * - Personally recommend
    # - Not recommended, only put for completeness

I'm not going to go over the other systems in detail but the SMS doesn't have many co-op games, in fact hardly any 2 player games at all. Bubble Bobble, Double Dragon, Double Hawk, Rampage, Quartet and Rambo/Secret Commando I can think of that are 2p co-op. If you have a Turbo-Duo there's Buster Bros. (Pang) that I recommend. In general though; the beat em ups, what I call arena platformers (e.g. Bubble Bobble series/Parasol Stars, Mario Bros.), certain run and gun games (Contra, Metal Slug), light gun games (e.g. Virtua Cop, Time Crisis, Point Blank, House of the Dead) and Cabal type of games (Cabal, Blood Bros, Alligator Hunt) are usually 2 player co-op, some shoot em ups are as well but can't think of any.

You know what's a hell of a lot of fun, and hasn't been mentioned yet? Two Crude Dudes, that's what. I just discovered that one the other night, and my fiancée and I had a blast playing through it.

Also, tennis games are usually good for a quick session (in doubles mode). On the Genesis, Pete Sampras Tennis is a good weapon of choice for that.

Otherwise, plenty of good recommendations in the thread thus far. Gain Ground is a particular favorite 'round these parts.

Heh, that's interesting -- that's one of the few shmup-type games that my fiancée will willingly play with me. Stinger is another one.

She calls it, "that helicopter and tank game."

I need to look into getting Mega SWIV one of these days.

Pretty sure SuperSWIV is better than MegaSWIV by a few billion miles.

    @Furnessly: nice list!

    Some more:

    Arcus Odyssey
    Battle Squadron
    Devilish (Bad Omen)
    Doom Troopers
Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story
    Berenstain Bears: The Camping Adventure
    Gadget Twins
    MegaSWIV
    Pengo
    Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention
    Wani Wani World
    Vapor Trail
    Wiz 'n Liz

lol, we actually played 2 crude dudes a couple nights ago. we're both suckers for anything that's over-the-top 90's (my dream is to have a dr. dude pinball machine). we've been having a lot of fun with kirby super star and the puzzle bobbles. had some fun with ZAMN too.

i wish there were more games like mario wii for the older systems.. someone should hack super mario world for 2-player simultaneous co-op.

yeah, side scrollers and stuff on the easier side of things are sorta what im looking for. she has little patience for shooters (though i love them), she cant keep up with all the visual hubbub, with the exception of galaga and space invader types.

i might try bad omen too, because we both like pinball/breakout type games.

we played world of illusion for a minute, but we got stuck at the teeter totter part (its been so long since i played it as a kid, i forgot you could drop a rope down to help the other person up), ill have to try that one out again.

its not really co-op, but we played dashin desperados a few nights ago and she had a lot of fun with it.

def gonna try joe and mac too, forgot about that one. and rolling thunder 2 was simultaneous co-op? rad.

having a "girlfriend approved" genesis list would be fun haha.

    thanks for the input guys!

If you're looking for a co-op sidescroller, Bonk 3 is a good one.

The Kunio Kun sports games are always great. Super Dodgeball is an absolute classic.

On MD it's called "Highschool Soccer MD".

    - perhaps we should do separate lists for (fun) sports and VS. games.

How about Kolibri? Turn off the sound FX and it's beautiful music plus beautiful graphics. I think girls would like it. lol 2-player co-op plus a code for invincibility!

Also maybe u don't want Bomberman type games, but Pier Solar has a sweet Bomberman clone on it. (I've never played the original Bomberman though.)

Trivial Pursuit on Sega CD is a good girlfriend game too. My ex-gf used to like Panic! on Sega CD but that's nothing more than random humor and random animations. (and 1player but u can just take turns.)

Girls like the Katamari games on PS2 (where u roll a ball to collect items). I had some PS2 game collection (with Mr. Potato Head on the cover) but I don't remember the name of the collection. Had Connect 4, Boggle, etc. Good for girlfriends.

Maybe Virtua Racing, Micro Machines, Shadow Squadron or Star Wars Arcade, Marble Madness? Oh and Altered Beast or Gunstar Heroes.
