    Default Project:Halloweenville

    Hey everyone!

I just started a new project a few weeks ago with Jav from Retro Nerve and progress has been coming along really well!

As you can guess by the title of this thread, it has to do with some sort of Halloween-type theme, and is a platformer for our beloved Genesis/Mega Drive.

Here's a preview of the game so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1sGh1YJGoY

We're estimating 4 to 5 months for development for the graphics and programming.

Anyway, hope you enjoy what we have so far!

    Thanks guys!

I spent most of my day yesterday converting animation frames over and getting ready to implement some power-up moves. The HUD has also been updated since that video to allow a placement for remaining lives :P

So far the progress has been really good. Here's what's done so far:
    - Map engine*
    - All of Stage 1's graphics (sans boss/boss fight related items)
    - All of the animations for the protagonist
    - Names of the character(s)**
    - Power-up design (what they are, how to obtain them, animation frames for those action)
    - Official name of the game

    * The map engine is functional and does a few things, such as floor collision, pit falls, camera locks and unlocks when you reach the ends of the stage (could also set "checkpoints" do to the same). This engine will continually evolve throughout the project to accommodate other features and functionality. The map is currently set to 512 tiles wide, but could theoretically be much, much larger.

** I say "character(s)" because we'd really like to do a boy and girl protagonist for this game, but it depends on if there's enough time and funding available at the end of the project. Here's to hoping, though!

And finally, the tools we're using to make this game happen:
    - Compiler: SecondBASIC (http://www.second-dimension.com/second-basic)
    - Graphic Utility: SecondPXL (http://www.second-dimension.com/second-pxl)
    - Map Editor: SecondDRAFT (not currently available for download)

Very nice indeed! Always great to hear about new games for our beloved console. By the way i hope that the guys from Retro Nerve didn't cancel the Kung FU UFO project as it looked very promising.

    Nice project.
Do you think second dimension tools are good for newbies?
Never develop for Genesis/MD, still need some asembler or just secondBasic?

I like to think they are, but it really comes down to what a person clicks with. There's no need to use ASM with SecondBASIC, but you can still use it if you'd like. If you try using the tools and get stuck, run into and issue, or need some help, let me know!
