It seems there is a lot of talk of tech specs and not of gameplay. i realize that sprite size, amount of enemies on screen, good music and sound effects is important, I want the game mechanics to evolve past Streets of Rage 3. No beat'em up to date has achieved such advanced play mechanics as SOR3. Comparing Project Y to SOR3 isn't copying SOR3. Did all movies copy the Matrix? No. It was an evolution in movie making and everyone followed it's examples.

    What SOR3 did right:

the b+c to hit backwards and land from an enemy throwing you. 6 button usage with the ability to do the advanced special moves with x&y& directional button commands. one upper button also doing the b+c move. one upper button doing the last part of the repeat b move that has the reach. two super moves. special moves that each person has with weapons. a super move gauge that fills up so it doesn't take away from your life. moves that are cooperative with another player. the fact that some enemies can block adding some difficulty but not taking it overboard like Golden Axe 3 did. the ability to throw and still being able to hold onto your weapon. the weapon having a lifespan from usage seems more strategic although it is a debatable improvement. enemies using the weapons. when you fall off an area, not loosing your entire life, just a great portion with your player climbing back up. having a story, but also a story that changes if it is on easy mode, and if you save the mayor in time or not, but also the ability to click thru it if it is not your interest so you don't have to read it for ten years like some games. the ability to run. the ability to roll up and down. the fact that all of the controls are easy to use and work great except for the harder to do advanced special moves. good hit detection. bosses that when you fight them with the right techniques, they can take little to no damage off of you instead of them being invincible and there is nothing you can do except die or use the super too much. the no time limits were better since this is not the arcade and your playing at your house so who cares how long it takes to defeat the enemies, the time crunch does not add to the funness so why have it, challeng me with enemies, not a time restraint. having a lot more and varied enemies was also good. having the bosses not rely and cheese moves and having the lesser enemies getting sucker punch moves in. the mini games were cool and the use of obstacles like the rolling down barrels which you can use to your advantage.

    what SOR3 did wrong

enemies being able to uncover and eat your life power-ups, thats just fucked up man. the special and super moves only having a fixed damage amount, not like SOR2 where if the enemy/boss is closer to you and or trying to pull off a move at the same time that yours and the enemies bosses moves can compete with yours, resulting in the enemies/ boss losing a massive amount of life or you loosing a massive amount or sometimes both happening. it was a lot cooler than just a fixed amount like in SOR 3. also having roo and shiva playable but they couldn't pick up weapons, that sucks since the enemies can pick them up and kill you with them and the only way you can get rid of them is try to pick them up 100 times and while you are doing this the enemies can kick your ass.

beyond this there were other Beat'em ups that had good elements that should be utilized.

the genesis punisher game with the usage of bombs and guns was really cool. in mystical fighter where you can grab an enemie and spin him around to hit other enemies was cool, and balanced since it also removed some of your life. also in mystical fighter where when you throw an enemy and they hit the other enemies knocking all of them over creating a domino effect taking off their life is also cool.

    extra things beyond SOR series

additional to super movies, there should be super moves, and "magic" moves like when you could call the cops for help in SOR1. why not have both? it's like the super move always has to replace the magic instead of having both. and if you have magics why not have a sophisticated system like Golden Axe 2 where everyone has different ones and there are different types of magic and also have a scale of strength and also based off of each character(hard to explain right). offcourse your not going to have dragons putting people on fire, your going to have people throwing pipe bombs, an electrified mist, pepper spray where you can kick everyone's ass while their stunned, and other inventive things. Also, an item that you can pick up that gives you the ability to change charactors before you die or just the ability after each life instead of at the continue would be good. 6 playable fighters would be good. also, there should be a good amount of females with two playable ones and they should all look sexy. Also, i'd rather have clear good looking detailed characters than for all the detail to go to the backrounds. also, we need a save option. we are all adults playing these now and don't have time for a 2 1/2 hour play-a-thon. I know part of playing a fighter, beat'em up, or shmup is also the difficulty of the endurance so that's why the save will be optional like the sonic 3. you can choose a save game or a no save game. also, possibly previously mentioned, a cooperative play option would be good like in Street Fighter Alpha 3 where you can play with an AI CPU team member cooperitively. It was really fun in Street Fighter 3 Alpha and I play all games alone so it would be fun to have a buddy to fight with. I know it could make the game easier. to fix that just have a super ultra hard option.

I am not too concerned whether Project Y will supercede every other beat em up game released for the console. After all, the release date is quite short! I'm just hoping for a well polished, fun game! After playing Pier Solar, I am quite optimistic that WM will be able to produce a visually appealing game that makes good use of the "limited colour palette". Personally, I don't think the console has a "limited colour pallete". Sure other consoles of the generation displayed more colors on screen but having more colors on screen does not automatically equate to a gorgeous looking game. In my humble opinion, a game's poor aesthetics is the fault of the developer. If the developer does not have the right artists on staff or does not put enough time and effort to improve the visuals, the game's graphics will suck. And yes, fanboyism aside I believe the console is capable of producing a gorgeous looking game!

When is the extenuated date for Project Y to be released ? Early 2014 ? Does Pier Solar still do re releases ? (Hopefully they send the fixed audio cds with cart now). And will project y use cart + cd sync ? (Not sure if I asked before and got answer.)

    RELEASE DATE: 16/08/2013

I wouldn't mind if they delayed the release of game by a few months if would gurantee that we would get a fantastic game that looked and played well! But a promise is a promise! And I imagine most people would be fuming through their nostrils! Kinda like this guy ...

Things Final Fight 3 did right that Streets of Rage never did....

-Running freely not just a straight line
-Weapon specific combo's are better then weapon specific special moves ex. Hagger with the Pipe and Guy with the nunchuks
-Running combo's ex. Guy's dash combo is the single most satisfying move in beat em up history for me
    Women Asian Please
Beat Em Up- Streets of Rage 2
    Platformer- Sonic 3 and Knuckles
    Run and Gun- Gunstar Heroes
    Adventure- Story of Thor
    Action- Shinobi 3
