I agree! The album is excellent and only one thing is missing - Onwards, the track which made me pick up Shining in the Darkness and beat it again .

Thanks man, We have an absolute ton of tracks which I'd like to compile into another album. Especially the music with more of an RPG theme. Still unsure if I'm going to do another FM Possible which was perhaps overkill with 37 songs. Or to release them in more smaller doses.

Speaking of FM Possible I should really upload that to Bandcamp. That album marked the beginning of me and Trevin working together way back in 2011 (with some tracks done with Cosmobuggi too) and while it's no longer as great as we used to think. If it wasn't for FM Possible, Project Y would probably sound very different.

Last words from Fonzie on WM Magical Factory forum :
"Game will be bigger than 48MEG, that's for sure, all your investments has been turned into pixel art."

So Project Y will be the "biggest" Beat them all ever made for home gaming system
Does it include the soundtrack or not yet

Why bank switching is the only way to break the 32MEGA size Does it concern only the cartridge ?
Or only the console hardware ? Both ? Does it imply a "software" link ?

Wasn't 80Mbits the limit without bank switch, when you could not even use the Sega CD and 32X?

32Mbit is the normal limit because only the memory region from $0 to $400000 is reserved for the cartridge slot and the !CE signal generated by the Genesis for the cartridge is only active in that region. However, a cartridge doesn't have to use that signal and doesn't have to necessarily follow the rules.

You can get up to 64Mbit without bank-switching if you use !LOMEM/!ASEL or do your own address decoding instead of using the !CE signal. You're not supposed to do this as the memory region from $400000 to $800000 is reserved for the expansion port, but it will work as long as nothing is plugged into the expansion port. To get to 80Mbit, you need to do your own address decoding and generate !DTACK for addresses above $800000. At that point your cart will also be incompatible with the 32X. So if you want to be pedantic, 32Mbit is the max without bankswitching or doing "naughty" things that a cartridge is not supposed to do on the Genesis/Megadrive.

Is bank switching bad in any way?

Cost I think. A pack of 40 eggs is cheaper than a pack of 32 and another of 8 eggs .

Do Genesis carts also need a memory mapper chip for bank switching?

I mean technically.Does bank switching greatly slow down memory access, for example?

It does slow down both on software as it needs a little memory management code to map stuff when a particular data is required and it also places a burden on the hardware as well, thought the latter won't have any negative effect as long it meets MD required timing (If it doesn't meet then the game basically glitches or crashes)

Even if it did, it would still be much faster than any SNES game.

Yeah but SNES has Chrono Trigger*.

    *Pretty much every pro-SNES argument

You could replace that with Super Metroid, or Earthbound. I've read those as the argument as well.

Irony: Chrono Trigger sold to ~5% of all SNES owners(possibly less, as sales number might also reflect the PS1 version), Super Metroid ~2%, Earthbound doesn't even register as selling to 1% (~420,000 worldwide).
