ah. Why is it that so many arcade games and consoles use a z80 and a 68k?

They were cheap, reliable, relatively powerful, and programmers had plenty of experience with them.

The meat of arcade games were the custom video/audio hardware however.

My Mother inlaw was nice enough to drop these off today. Good news most of it is readable, allthough some of the board scans are no good and the schematics....well we'll have to see as where the paper has folded the letter are worn away.

I won't be at work tomorrow but I will start scanning these Thursday. I have said I will start with the Saturn one as these guys put heaps of faith in me. 8Bit will be next so I can ship these to Bock (SMSPower).

Those shots of the 32X manual make me really excited about these. Perhaps this will finally shed light on why certain models need the expansion port terminator and others do not.

Yeah, that shot of the 32X one you did specifically makes me think of all the units I have that will play some games but not all.

Yay, maybe now we can figure out how to properly fix the 32X lockup problem. Mine is/was new in the box and has this issue whether I use it on a Model 1 or Model 2 though.
Also be interesting to see what that Model 1 CD manual may shed light on.

It was interesting for me to read that in regards to the Mega CD2, allthough the Samsung and sony Lasers look similar they can't be swapped over due to different components.

Reason I thought they may be pin compatible is that with a model one you can swap the whole drives over and it works.

Unfortunately these (as far as I have read) don't deal with the JVC laser'ed Sega CD2.

I haven't had time to read these, as we picked up the new family car today.

Amazing. Huge huge props to everyone involved.

What's the current plan for making them available? Are they going up on a dedicated site, or being posted to the various forum communities involved?

I can provide hosting (sometimes temporairly wonky). I got lots of upstream and no bandwidth limit and over 700GB of space on my server.

I read that it's the VA0 32X that tends to lock up on some games without the terminator. The VA1 doesn't need it.

It's fantastic to get this pieces of info that might help in the process of repairing consoles starting from the VA3 MD1 to the VA7 MD1 and some MD2 revisions.

However it's gonna be very rare to find manuals of US only boards such as the VA2 MD1 or the VA2/2.3 MD2, let alone manuals for JP only board revisions (VA0-VA1 MD1).

I have scanned the Sega Saturn Manuals

    I have done them in PDF 600dpi A4 section is B/W A3 schematics in grey. Tiffs 600dpi b/w A4 and A3.

Now these are being RE-DONE due to some issue's some guys have over at SegaSaturnUk, so I have sent them to another fellow in Australia to have a crack at.

It has to be remembered these are COPIES of the original manual NOT THE original manual. Anyway here we go

    PDFs

    A4 Section
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/0mzue75b6w...0A4%20size.pdf

    A3 Schematics
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/d4mkxd7p9c...0A3%20size.pdf

    Tifs

    A4 Section
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/2r5xx2n5a8...0A4%20size.tif

    A3 section
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/awxdma4vj2...0A3%20size.tif

So I guess if you don't like them, for the other fellow (RetroJunkie on Assembler Forums) to re-scan them.
