    Default Greatest Heavyweights

Boxing has been referred to as the "sweet science," but its history in video games has been more sweet and sour. From gems like Punch Out! and Fight Night to duds like Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing, there's been a bit of everything over the years. Sega threw its hat in the ring several times during the Genesis era, and one of its better tries was Greatest Heavyweights, which pitted many of boxing's most famous legends against each other. We have a full review for you, so why not go a few rounds with us and learn why you should track this one down.

But soon you'll hit someone who's got a heightened speed stat, and you'll be laying flat on your back quicker than certain females who do that sort of thing for a living.
    I love you, Vince.

Great review for a great boxing game. As a kid I fancied myself something of an amatuer pugilist (why, I'll never know) and I put an awful lot of time into this and Super Punch-Out. I prefered this when I actually wanted to feel like I was boxing.

Great review. I loved this game when I was a kid and it's good to know I wasn't alone.

Mike Tyson wasn't officially in the game. However, the champion you fight in career mode is Mike Dixon. You can notice he was made te be like Tyson. His height, body style, etc.

This is definately my all time fav boxing game.

I figured that, but I didn't want to fill the review with speculation.

Mike Dixon, fictitious father of fictitious heavyweight champ Mason Dixon?

If we ever found out that was the real reason behind his name, i'd cry.

I like this game, it's a fun button basher.

It may seem like that in the begining, but soon you'll have to develop real stragety. Especially when you really need to be using block more than punch in most cases.

In the first one (Holyfield), you could win with hooks and uppercuts. In this game, you need mostly jab combos to set up power punches.

This game is RIDICULOUSLY hard at times. It's just really hard. Usually I have to sucker-punch them when they're taunting or something like that to get a hit in. Some boxes fall against the same pattern over and over again, and then there's people like Muhammad Ali that just straight-out flatten you.

It's the best boxing game for the system, but it's no Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, that's for sure.
