    WTF Revenge of the Ninja

Renovation took advantage of the massive storage capacity of CDs to port a few arcade laser disc games. One of the lesser-known (and weaker) of the bunch was Revenge of the Ninja. Having to share shelf space with more prominent titles like Road Avenger and Time Gal, it seems to always be forgotten... and with good reason. Read our full review for all the details.

You know, I don't think I've ever actually played a FMV game, other than five minutes of Night Trap... five minutes too long.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

Night Trap is a really good game for what it's worth and the best use of FMV in my opinion. Revenge of the Ninja is just disappointing. It has no charm or style, which are really the only things I think which sell these Simon-like FMV titles. Road Advenger is exiting to watch unfold. This disc is just bland from the start.

I downloaded this game and beat it on my first try. Nothing can touch Road Avenger. That game holds the #1 spot for FMV games. Cobra Command is a distant #2. Then maybe Dragon's Lair. Then maybe Night Trap. Then maybe Revenge of the Ninja. Then maybe Space Ace. Then maybe Time Gal waaaaaaaaaaay after that.

I think Benjamin is right in saying this game has "no charm," that seemed to be the biggest problem with me. Although, it was kinda funny to see the ninja's white under garments when he was jumping around haha (though I doubt it was supposed to be funny heh).

I do find Revenge of the Ninja, slightly better then Dragon's Lair though, while Ninja might be easy and plain, Dragon's Lair was just too frusterating and annoying trying to time all of the actions just right.

I wonder if anyone here sent away for the certificate saying that he/she had beat hard mode? Now that would be kinda sweet actually haha.

    Default Certificate

Actually, I remember a GamePro reader letter asking about the certificate that you can send for by mail. Obviously, by the time that the individual who wrote the letter actually beat the game, the offer had long since expired.

As soon as I saw the title of this game, I wondered: what is the difference between a ninja and a shinobi?

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Shinobis are less grainy. It has always been this way through ancient Japanese times.

And shinobis also take out their revenges on Game Boy Advance, while ninjas don't.

Seriously, Shinobi is the art of stealth, IIRC. Ninjas are experts in the art of Shinobi.

...and they took their revenge out on the Genesis long before the GBA.

Also... Shinobis can be Ninja Masters, but Ninjas can't be Shinobi Masters... well technically, they can, but it... oh nevermind. :P
