And I say that foundation, design and planning wise, was no worse than say the SNES, PS2 or PS3. If those are all "really crappy foundations" too then I agree, but I would call them all less than perfect middling design and planning efforts. Then again, I don't know exactly what you meant by planning since you have marketing and design in there as well.

    etc.

XBox One has nothing on the blunder that cost Sega over a billion.

All that said, i still love it. Sweet looking console & style, great controllers, great 1st party titles, great arcade ports, etc. And unlike that piece of shit 32X, it truly brought Sega gaming to the NEXT LEVEL.

I see from other posts that you are a clear and cut m$ fanboy. your name trying to mask it but no it fails. all of those points you name(although not all of them are true like franchises point) with saturn aren't nearly as bad as what microsoft pulled of with 2nd hand games restrictions, 24 hour online lock. in 1995 e3 saturn was destroyed because of the 399 price against 299. now the same happened but the price isn't the worst at all for microsoft. it's all the other screw ups against gamers. saturn wasn't an anti gamer console. FAR from it in fact.

not at all. sega of america couldn't dictate the price, which is what cost sega as back in 1995 the western markets were 16 bit for 95%. japan pushed everything through and eventually fucked up sega for good by cutting all support of systems except saturn.

the ps2 is considered the most succesful console ever. it was build on far worse foundation, which makes your argument invalid. "bad" hardware doesn't hurt a system as consumers have no idea. all the other things in the eye of the consumer do.

I want to know who i'm supposed to blame for not getting western releases for Grandia , Baroque and other great games.

Also, the Xburguer can only wish to have a great gaming library like the Saturn has.

Blame the ever loving exec Bernie Stolar for the lack of Saturn localizations. He actually took the job at SoA specifically to kill the Saturn, he hated the Saturn and its games.

That is a great picture that goes in my jokes folder for future reference. It is so silly how he and Vic Ireland have created this narrative that three fricking months of the Saturn's western life defined its entire existence. The Pre-launch price and titles were quickly accompanied by the full nationwide launch titles and the price drop. By October there was no difference in quantity or quality of titles depending on tastes, by the end of the year the Saturn looked extremely strong.

I see Doom and MK3 in the PS1 list. Also, look at the sports line-up (not my thing, really, but it's big to people in US).

I was only answering the narrative that the Saturn didn't have "very good games". I am not interested in debating which system had the more mainstream game offerings. That is clearly going to favor the Playstation.

The discussion was about why Grandia and other top Jpn Saturn games weren't localized. That was undeniably Stolar's fault, and it is a fact that he thought the Saturn "didn't have very good games" and that Saturn games weren't fun.
