Whats the best way to clean corroded pins on a 32x/Genesis cartridge? I've cleaned the pins with a staedtler eraser and there's some pins on the back of the cartridge that appear to be corroded. The game produces garbled graphics and random freezes but works fine on the Everdrive.

Default 32x rgb fuzzy off center

    hi,

i have a 32x md1 hdg and mega cd2. the md and mega cd work with a rgb cable really well but when i plug the 32x in the image is not centered and breaks up often yet what i can see is very sharp with good colors.

the ribbon cables in the 32x have all been cleaned and reseated, the sync from the md is tapped directly with a cap and resistor soldered directly to the av out pin.

i'm not sure what else i can try to fix this issue. (its a LCD tv) from the research i have done it seems to be the h and v sync having problems is their a way to confirm this problem then fix it?

the main one i'm talking about is the one that causes it not to power on. i've never had problems with my model 2, but i did with my model 1 but i know they are different. i don't fix these, i make my dad, so the website with pictures is better.

Megadrive Stepdown Converter for Japanese MK1 Megadrive

    Hey Guys,
I've bought a Japanese Model 1 Megadrive and I live in the UK,I know that I can use standard UK MK1 power adapters with the Jap one,but they are not very cheap on ebay and I already have an stepdown adapter which I use with my Japanese Sega Saturn.
now Can I use this stepdown adapter with the Japanese MK1 MD?
It says on the converters box Input 230V - 50 Hz Output AC 110V 45W.

So, to clarify, you have an original Japanese power adapter and some stepdown adapter to plug
in between the wall socket and the Japanese model 1 power adapter?

This sounds like it should work, in Japan they have 110V 60Hz electricity, the Mega Drive should
not pull more than 45W under any circumstances.

    Free your music,

Similar question: I live in Europe and I bought me an ntsc snes. What sort of power supply do I need? I bought a UK-plug compatible ntsc power supply but it seems to overheat and cause the screen to ripple. Am I better off using the normal ntsc one and use a plug-adapter to plug it in? Or will that cause voltage problems?

I'm no Einstein on the subject so help would be appreciated.

Edit: I got an input: ac240V/50hz output 8.5V/500mA ntsc power supply with a UK plug but since I live in Belgium I also have to use a plug-adapter on in and that's 250v/7.5amp. Could this be the problem?

I tried my snes and the first 5 minutes it plays without rippled screen. After playing ISSD for about an hour the screen distortion got gradually worse and the power supply seems to heat up. Also, I don't think it's the scart I'm using since I bought 3 different one's and they all give the same result.

NTSC uses 110v wall sockets. You need a step down converter for it to use the NTSC console in europe. Europe uses 220-230v on wall socket depeanding on a country and this is the reason why youre power brick overheats because it cannot take all those extra volts.

I believe you could buy 12v adapter that runs in 220-230v power socket from your local market, and use that with the console. The outputs on power bricks are same for the console itself. Also you will need to look polarity and if snes wants DC or AC input. There is both ac and dc adapters sold in ebay, then you need to manually change polarity if it is not correct for your console.

Be true to yourself. GFX doesn't matter, the game does. If you are intrested to donate one NTSC Genesis for hardware testing purposes, please pm me.

just use on ebay.co.uk search: dc 12v 1a adapter.

The SNES has a regulator that regulates the AC or DC to 5volts. The SNES needs to drain atleast 9V 800mA.

So Using 12v 1a adapter will keep your adapter nicely cold and wont warm too much.

    The tricky part is this:

You need to manually desolder ntsc power cable from old NTSC power brick. Then Desolder the new cable from new power brick. Then solder the ntsc cable with its SNES 7mm power plug to the new power brick to able to get right power plug that fits to SNES input. After doing this kind of power brick mod, it is always good to tape some note to power brick saying like: SNES --C-+. Help when you need to deconnect the brick and to find right one when you need power cable.

    Edit:
Some people are reporting that they have used megadrive power bricks with snes and they have worked. This says that the standard 5mm power plug should work in SNES but I dont know how firmly it fits so dont know if there can be power issues while playing. You could test with the new power bricks 5mm input and if it works then you are fine. Else just do the (not so trivial) cable switch mod to new power brick :P

SNES' generally have too thick middle pin so MD brick will not go in, but if it does, it will work. EU SNES all use AC bricks, and if you use DC brick it won't make a difference what polarity you got, it will work as long as the brick is powerful enough. I use MD or SMS bricks with my SNES :P
