WTF Make My Video: Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch

Somewhere, when no one is looking, Mark Wahlberg silently curses at his PC monitor as he scours eBay. The cause of his anger? Copies of Make My Video: Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch fetching BINs of ¢.99. The funny thing is, it's not the price that has him upset; it's the fact that copies of his FMV debut are still in circulation. Trust us, after playing this installment of the Make My Video series, we feel his pain. Read our full review and say a prayer for poor Mark. This is something he'll have to live with for his entire life.

No other game systems had Oscar™nominees. That's how awesome the Sega CD was.

    The burning question is:

Whatever happened to the funky bunch?

    From a fan site:

Throughout the existence of the group Mark did remain the focus of attention, with the others appearing to play second fiddle to him. Although the group never formally split up, Mark's popularity took him onto a solo career quite separate from the group (recording with Prince Ital, modeling for Calvin Klein and later acting). In 1995 Mark dropped his stage name "Marky Mark" and concentrated on his career as an actor.

However, Mark does still hold a recording contract. Whether the Funky Bunch are included in this contract or not has yet to be established.

The funny thing is, is you go to his official forum, there's a board for every film, but his musical career is nowhere to be found. It's as though he wants to forget it ever happened!

I always used to pronounce them as "inks" instead of "en ecks ess".

...didn't "Power Factory" feature Laurence Fishburne...? (It's been a few years since I had the game.)

I don't see how any of these "Make my Video" games could get even a passing score. Even to fans of the groups, the appeal (and "gameplay") is limited.

They can't really.. 3 is as best as it can get really, (maybe a 4 for INXS), but to be honest, who makes a game out of video editing? the concept was good and ok, but the implementation was poor...

still, yes, there are other better musicians, but the thing is, the game was implemented poorly

Many, many, many moons ago, when music CDs cost $20-$30; finding a $1.99 copy of Power Factory for two songs I did not have seemed like a decent deal. After the spread of the internet, it wasn't.

Come to think of it, had the SEGA built an increased color palette into the SEGA CD, they might have had made a little niche market for themselves by selling Video CDs during the pre-DVD era.

The 32X is the only possible solution to increase the color pallet (and speed)..

You can't up the color count on the Sega CD by the means the Sega CD connected to the system, because you're still using the old VDP, which just didn't have the "mode"... The 32X did this via Overlay, the only possible way to increase the color count...
