Down with EA

Electronic Arts is truly the bane of the video game industry. They're monopolizing the sports industry, because of Sega's tried and true efforts in the 2K5 series. Now, with no competition, well all be spoon fed these EA rehashes every year for the next 5 years in football. Madden is the same every year with minor tweaks. Look at the ESPN games... a different formula but a solid effort. It seems like EA took the cowardly way out... they didn't try to improve, oh no, but instead they just decided to lock out any worthy competition. EA is just buying out everything and smearing their crap everywhere and leaving vicious skid marks any chance they can get. What do you guys think?

Curse EA SPORTS for snagging the ESPN licence from Sega!!! That really pisses me off! I've been a Sega Sports player since the Master System days. That was REALLY STUPID of EA Sports!!!! Monopolies are illegal! Nintendo got sued by Atari for monopolistic practices. Anyhoo, EA was one of Sega's licencee companies to support the Genesis. Hell, I've played Madden on the PS2 and I LOATHE it entirely. That's why I chose the Sega Sports/ESPN Videogames brand games.

Not only did they steal the ESPN license from Sega, they also bought out the exclusive rights to the NFL for the next 5 years. They also have the Nascar and NCAA licenses. And we all the know the question that is yet to be answered - where was EA when Sega needed them during the most: the Dreamcast era? If the Dreamcast had any support from EA, it would've lasted much longer. If I ever meet the executive manager for EA, I am going to systematically beat the living crap out of him with nothing but a copy of ESPN NFL 2K5.

Eventually the company will reach such a staggering size that it won't possibly be able to maintain control of itself, and it'll all implode, or be wiped out by nuclear war with the rest of North America. ..unless a resilient trace of EA somehow survives, starts a new government, and appoints John Madden as president, who also survived! And a new horrible age will begin.

You have to remember, the NFL was the one who offered the rights to the highest bidder. If there's anyone to blame, it's them.

Still, you can always get a Pro Action Replay and just download updated rosters for NFL 2K5!

I'm waiting till right before the NFL season starts to download the lastest rosters for NFL 2K5 and use Flynn's schedule editor to update the season to reflect this year's schedules in franchise mode.

It's unfortunate that Visual Concepts didn't continue to make, and greatly improve upon, their college football game as college football is my first love. Having to endure EA only college football games the last few years has royally sucked. It's too bad VC didn't continue making NCAA FB 2K into something as great as their College Hoops games have been these last 2 years.

P.S. for those unaware EA has not only gobbled up the license to the NFL, but to NCAA football, the AFL (Arena Football League), as well as already having exclusive licenses to NASCAR, PGA, and FIFA. Luckily the NBA said no to an exclusive license.

Also in the retalitory sense Visual Concepts gobbled up the MLB license to strike back at EA. One way or the other excluding competition is crap.

But it will always be purchased used from pawn shops.

But F**k EA for gobbling up NASCAR.

The fighting games they have are pretty lackluster besides Fight Night round 2.

The Def Jam series has a very bad fighting system (a punch, a kick, and a grapple), and the special moves, you can only know 1!!!

There's still a chance for another Daytona. Daytona isn't a Nascar only track, so don't get your panties in a knot yet. I don't think EA owns the license to Daytona, or many other Nascar tracks, because they're used for more than Nascar.

As for the subject... I still buy a game from EA here and there. I'm not biased against any game company. I like all kinds of games and compaines, for what they are, games!

Holding a grudge about some company having exclusive rights to this or that is stupid. Life is too short to hold stupid gruges, esp. over video games. However, if your girlfriend is sleeping with your brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate, than it's somewhat different, just don't hold it too long.

I won't avoid EA products that genuinely interest me. I mean, I bought Timesplitters 3 the week of release, and that was published by ol' gluttonous EA Games. Spore is an amazingly engrossing-looking PC simulation which I will undoubtedly buy in 2006 regardless of EA Games publishing it. In fact, a good friend of my brother recently got a job as a modeller at EA Vancouver, so for that reason alone I'd like to see the company do well. Unfortunately the company shows no knowledge of restraint, and they'll just keep on buying out every bloody developer they can. That annoys me.
