Both GOAC Mega Amp variants work for the TCT-6801. On a system like your MegaDrive X, though, what you want is the standard GOAC YM3438 Mega Amp for Sega GOACs and GOAC-based Geniclones since it's not an x-in-1 clone. The GOAC YM3438 Mega Amp for x-in-1 clones with GOACs is for use on 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 consoles like the RetroBit Gen-X, Yobo Gameware GN Twin, Hyperkin RetroN3 and Yobo Gameware FC3 Plus.

I'd love to try and build this for my VA7, but I've never really understood how to find suitable transistors, that's the only reason I didn't try building the CCAM. So many different qualities to look for and I have no idea what's important and what's not. Sounds incredible though

I wish there was a way for the volume control to remain useful, just having it sit there useless is the only thing that bugs me about the audio mods.

This mod works fine with volume regulators, such as the ones found in model 1s. You'd need to rewire the regulator but it'll work just fine.

I'm actually working on figuring out how the VA7 Genesis Model 1's volume slider works so you can still make use of it. Once that's done, I will update the VA7 Genesis Model 1 solder points to make use of the volume slider.

Wow this looks great! Unfortunately I have packed away all my stuff for know while we are selling/moving house. As I understand it on the model 1's all connections go to the headphone socket?

Yes, but alternatively you could connect them to the volume slider. We're working on the pinout of that thing.

Transistors Q1 & Q2 are the headphone buffers? So one would need to leave in C11/R22 and C12/R23? From ASIC 3438 filtered

@Omp:C11 and C12 are mandatory. If you omit the headphone buffers, that means omitting Q1, Q2 and R23 to R27.

    Ah sweet, thank you.

Just as a suggestion (no smart-ass-ness is implied) perhaps a dashed or hidden detail type box can be placed around the "headphone buffer" with a note number for clarification?

Also if the only difference to the circuit (filtered vs unfiltered) is one or two components, perhaps the other number can be placed in brackets with another note number? For example "All (xx) is for unfiltered circuit only" or the like.

I am only offering the suggestion as I have been an electrical drafter (not electronic circuits, Infrastructure and more recently mining) for a few years now and is only as a suggestion (I understand & appreciate the effort that has been put into this).
Thank you for donating to the Sega 16 bit manuals!
