Default Jap 32X with Knuckles Chaotix

I bought a Jap 32x and was told it would be able to play any region 32X games, however it does not work with the US version of Knuckles Chaotix. All I get is the Sega license screen and then blank....

I have the Jap 32x plugged into a Jap Mega Drive 1. (I'm in Australia....but all our TV's are multi-system down here). And I want to play in NTSC!!!!

I then plugged a US 32x into the Jap Mega Drive 1, and Knuckles Chaotix worked!

I thought the Jap Mega Drive would reject the US 32x.

To make things even funnier.....I had this mixed up combo working with Knuckles Chaotix..... US 32x, Jap Mega Drive 1, Pal Mega-CD 1 !!!!!!!!!! I don't have any 32x CD games to test if this weird combo will play the cds.

The moment I unplugged the 32x, the region incompatibility screen for the mega drive and cd unit popped up!

If the 32x has no regioning then does Knuckles Chaotix check the region on the Mega Drive/Genesis?

If you're using a US 32x on a Jpn. Mega Drive, and it does play the US version of Chaotix; then would it not play if it did ignore the 32x region and read the Mega Drive? The 32x must have some kind of regional lockout to play games, a US game playing normally on a Japanese system just doesn't make sense.
Up on the shelf; it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Sega Genesis! Faster processing than a SNES, more powerful than a TG-16, able to play 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit and CD-ROM games on a single system (with the CD, 32x and power base converter, of course)

Dont quite understand what you just wrote.

Also just tried the Jap 32x on a pal mega drive and all the pal 32x cartridge games worked! Output was pal. I compared the border size using the Jap 32x compared to a pal 32x (which I forgot I had) and the borders were the same.

So Knuckles Chaotix must detect that I'm not using Genesis hardware. I thought a US 32x and Jap mega drive would have worked.

So does that mean that the 32x does not have the pal/ntsc video output hardware (not sure what the correct term is), and relies on the mega drive / genesis unit for that?

Were any pal 32x games in full screen?

the 32X is a little different in region identification.. here's the crossover for the 32X system (the system itself, no games)..

    US > JAP
    JAP > US
    EURO > Not interchangeable.

Games on the 32X identify the language region by using the Genesis... They identify the Hz (US/JAP to EURO) by the 32X itself..

Knuckles Chaotix works on regions by the Frequency...

    -------------------------------------------

Bottom line: If it's the Japanese game, it should work on a American/Japanese combination unit...

Are you sure Knuckles Chaotix detects region by frequency?

If I use the a US version of Knuckles Chaotix on a US 32x but connected to a jap mega drive 1, I get the Jap title screen "Chaotix" and jap text.

My Jap machine is NTSC 60Hz, which should be the same as the Genesis.

you just confirmed what i said... Japan and America both use the same frequency, therefore it will run...

If you put it on an EURO system, which has a different frequency, you are presented with "Developed for use only with NTSC Genesis systems & NTSC Mega Drive Systems."

and uh, Japanese text? Do take a picture.. My cartridge don't do that, and as far as I know, there was never a cart with a japanese titlescreen, as they both shared the same binary image..

what I meant was I get the Japanese version of the title screen which is "Chaotix"

also in the practice mode just after the first small section of the game the instructions that appear at the bottom of the screen are all in Japanese.

how does the cartridge know the difference between the Japanese or Japanese console? is it detecting the language setting too?

Why didn't Sega remove the Japanese text from the US cartridge?
