Dc Dreamcast's Colin McRae Rally 2.0 Revealed

Colin McRae 2.0 on Dreamcast is the stuff of legends. But guess what? It exists...sort of. This video showcases the 30% complete demo that Codemasters put together for Sega before the game was cancelled for unknown reasons.

    Game footage starts around 2:00.

Isn't there roadside detail besides trees in Greece? and I hate the look of nontransparent windows.

The track textures are pretty impressive though.

    Do you mean PS1?

I don't think they even jacked up the polygon counts between the PS1 and Dreamcast versions, nor were they planning to.

PS1 maybe, doesn't even look close to a PS2 game.

Can someone tell me why the US version on PS1 is pricey, or was some time ago? Bought it new in 2002/3 time frame for $5...saw it was going for much more on ebay a year or two ago.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

AFAIK the production run for the US version was smaller than the EU version and the game was freaking good.
IDK what the heck happened, but maybe Codemasters miscalculated the audience for this game in US or something.

I'm pretty sure they would have tweaked the game later on, but in its current state, the slowdown looks horrendous.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

You don't know that, they could if they try hard enough or given more time before the demise of the console

I'm going based off Gran Turismo 3.

Never even heard of Smuggler's Run if i'm honest.

Yea try hard enough, no one did that because they knew the Dreamcast version would always sell poorly.

Take a look at 6:44 in this video:

Both versions have the exact same polygon counts. You can see every single polygon is identical.

The Dreamcast can apparently process x15 more polygons than the N64. Why do those version have the same polygons? half-assery.

Ridge Racer V came out even before that rally game. It doesn't have as nice textures, or run at 480p, but the roadside detail and cars are light-years ahead, overall more impressive.

P.S. Smugglers Run is a crappy game.

A lot of Playstation & N64 ports to Dreamcast generally tended to suffer from doing the minimum amount of work required.

The only reason why most Sega Dreamcast version does poorly or work usually rushed because of the PlayStation 2 announcement at the time plus most people were switching to PS2 or waiting for the console to release.

But even so, the majority of PlayStation 2 games at launch was unheard of and most didn't care for them until Grand Theft Overrated 3 came along and took the system by storm.
