Lazygecko uses FM8 limited to 4ops and then he tries to correct some stuff to stick to YM2612 peculiarities. I would love to hear him working on the real thing and using Stef's drivers to version some stronger machines melodies taking advantage of a superior PCM mixer, like NeoGeo or System 16. Probably an actual Megadrive would sound more rough here or there, just like emulation vs real machine, but his music compositions sound pretty accurate to me.

It would be pretty enjoyable if we end with a version of SSFII with altered color palletes, fixed PCM playback and enhanced backgrounds and BGMs all done by amateur people. I would overwrite my own SSFII PAL cart if such a thing is even possible.

The Ken remixes are amazing, but it is a shame they do not put a link to download the vgms.
I fell in love with Mega drive in 1991. Now programing for it...

The FM instruments are better on the Genesis IMO, and you can't do much on the Genesis to replicate the sampled guitars.

It sounds a bit cleaner, i don't have problems with the original OST though.

WIP Double Dragon theme in DD2 style: http://www.filedropper.com/doubledragon-titledd2style

Second loop has the arcade bassline and some extra harmonies, and correct octave on the melodies but I thought it sounded a bit thin. It also has a higher pitched snare. What do you think?

I sounds 100 times better than the arcade version. Good job.

Could you have a look at Castlevania Bloodlines? The melodies are quite good but the instruments aren´t IMO.

Thanks, I made a few more tweaks which are in the linked file (opens in VGMM - VGM Music Maker) below the vid so you might want to listen to that version too. All tracks I've done here also sound better in VGMM itself.

Bloodlines isn't at the top of my list of ost's I'd like to do since it's above average and I think others can do a better job, but I'll check it out at some point. I think I'll do a track from Quackshot or Mega Bomberman next.

Many soundtracks can sound nicer with minor tweaks like adding a channel for echo or detuning to leads, or improving the drums. For example I was looking at Contra: HC yesterday and while it sounds really cool and has pretty advanced and intricate sequencing, all tracks until The Dawn in the sound test neglect channel 5 completely, and it uses so-so sampled drums + fm drums when better sampled drums would suffice. With two free channels it could have better guitars and less grating leads.

I would if there was a way to put the tracks into the game itself! It's hard to stay motivated for an entire soundtrack because it takes so long for me to do even a short track (I learn it by ear, put it into VGM, then finally can start to improve on it which probably takes the longest as well). If one could import .vgz or .vgm into VGMM or Deflemask this stuff would be much easier.

Yeah the drums are the main thing to improve with Bloodlines. I think Quackshot can sound better, just listen to World of Illusion, Master of Monsters or Dahna Megami Tanjyou for example.

Again, don't know if it's PAL related, but World Of Illusions, despite having great themes, also has scratchy samples (just like Phantasy Star 3). Quackshot sounded much clearer/

I assume you mean the FM and/or PSG since those two games don't use samples (99% sure), but if something is scratchy or abrasive in other ways then it can be tweaked pretty easily by lowering an operator or tweaking something else. I have to also consider real hardware though, as some parts of songs sound too sharp on a modded Model 2 or in emulation but nice on a model 1.

I can only find a real hardware recording of one WoI track and it sounds fine to me, maybe a bit shrill on the lead synth.

I speak from memory, and I had a model 1 PAL MD. I use the word 'sample' with the meaning of 'instrument sound, independantly of tonality or intensity', I'm afraid I don't know anything about FM, PSG or anything, and very few about music in general. But I've good ears

For the scratchy music of Phantasy Star 3, I was referring more specifically to the music in towns or in space (the 2 satellites) ; there are others too.

For WoI, the intro music (when cards are turning) comes to mind.
