90's Arcade Racer Hits The Pits For Name Change, No Longer Listed For Wii U Release
    Gentlemen, (don't) start your engines?

The long-awaiting 90's Arcade Racer has been given a new name - '90s Super GP - but it appears that the title is no longer coming to the Wii U.
The product page on the Nicalis site lists the formats as Xbox One and PS4 only, along with a release date of Fall 2016 - that's three years after the original release window of late 2013.

The game's Kickstarter campaign ended at the start of 2013, and a Wii U release was confirmed when developer Antonis Pelekanos - also known as Pelikan13 - partnered with Nicalis. In an interview with Nintendo Life, Pelekanos claimed that the Nintendo version would launch alongside the other editions of the game in "late 2013", but that never happened.
A 2014 launch was then mooted but also missed, and fresh footage - showing the gorgeous visuals and smooth frame rate on Wii U - was released in 2015 to prove the project was still very much alive.
We've contacted both Nicalis and Pelekanos to get clarification on the news and will update this article when we hear back.

WiiU is more or less dead as it is if it weren't for Nintendo so it's no surprise if they saw no profit in a release anymore because back in 2013 it would have been viewed as viable.

Don't read much into that. The link is down now, but when I saw it a few days ago, they had several games listed only for consoles that had already been released on the PC. Who knows what is going on with this one?

I don't like the name change, because it implies a formula car focus. But it looks like Daytona was the biggest influence, and it has 3 car classes anyway.

There's definitely Sega Super GT influence there too, especially with how the cars look and seem to handle.

I thought something was off with this guy's eagerness when he first started the KS, so I decided not to invest and put my kaching towards Shenmue 3.

Guess I was right. Sounds like this game is completely dead, and if it ever does come out, it'll probably be Duke Nukem Forever awful.

This game still looks incredible. Contrast the way this looks with the new Daytona made in the UK with a whole team of people. That looks garbage by comparison.

It's obviously very Scud Race influenced.. which is probably my favourite arcade racer ever.

Sega could have done worse than team up and offer him some development assistance.

I really hope it comes out soon, current racing games are all so.. ugh sim like, there's no joy to be gotten there by the arcade racer.
and then there's the new Carmageddon, which controls like the tires are smeared with Vaseline.

People seem to love these kinda racing games though, or they'd go away.

So the news is basically it's coming to Switch

When the game is released, even though it looks absolutely no further in development than it was 4 years ago. Great update.

I'm glad it's making the "switch" to newer consoles ;P

The Wii U is definitely dead, and I say that as a long time fan.
