    If you have a screen of games with SMS pallete, what about post it here?

    I actually have a pretty big imgur album full of mockups of various games from later systems that I've done, but they don't take the proper limitations into account.
    These should be doable though I think:

    Alright, a Ninja Gaiden mockup. Two versions of the enemy, lantern (?) and hud text since I was undecided on those and not sure what can actually be done on SMS. Not gonna edit all the ground tiles without a tile editor.

    Considering the Turtles one (the far right one) has some colors outside the SMS RGB range, and is 45 colors total after clamping to SMS palette range.. yeah, not all of those are realistic. The Boss for GnG is though. I reduced it down to 16 colors, and it looked great.

    Over all, still pics are misleading when it comes to colors, because you don't see the larger effect that it has on a game as you have more objects/sprites/BG detail/etc that comes into play (ST or Amiga syndrome - objects, enemies, and background all have same-y palette look).

    Too bad the SMS doesn't have sprite flipping. It would make hacking GB roms (not GBC) to run on SMS a bit easier. A simple game like Super Mario Land could probably be done with minimal work.

    I like the Ninja Gaiden touch up you did. I've been thinking about doing that one for nes2pce (even though PCE already has one, I like the nes one better. I like the play controls better). If I did do it, I'd touch up the graphics for it.

    It's almost criminal how Super Mario Land 2 has been forever banished to low resolution & grayscale graphics

    I'd honestly put it above SMB3 and SMW for my favourite 2D Mario

    Thanks tomaitheus, I usually run the pic through the auto converter with the sega retro palette when I'm done but I guess I forgot with the TMNT pic and missed something. I should say by doable, I mean I think it could still look pretty good after taking everything into account.

    Yeah your MM port came into my mind while doing it, I had a look at the PCE version for comparison but the spritework is pretty amateurish overall and the color choices and background changes are sometimes for the worse.

    Anyway, two more NG mockups:

    Did a few different versions of the brick wall and lantern, the rightmost pick is the older version. Gray tones (and arguably dark browns) is something the NES actually does better than the SMS. :P


    Used shades from the other sprites for the green ninja, that's why I did the change to purple. It could perhaps still be green and have some shading.

    Edit: Here's 3-1. The dark yellow/green is either brighter or darker on SMS so I made so variations on the forest and bamboo (?).

    @Alianger

    I'd play the crap out of Metal Gear 2 on Master System, especially if it looked that nice (and had expansion music support). Great work!

    Not sure if it's considered a mockup,but I ripped the background tiles from My hero and added Ms pacman sprite....quite simple coded in z80.
