Sega CD Some love for the SEGA CD version of Batman Returns

    Hey guys!

George and I just recently released a new video all on the trio of Batman Returns games released by Sega.

The video pays special attention to the SEGA CD version and the memories attached to playing it back in the day.

Hope you enjoy! All the best,

    Tyler

Will I be alone if i say I think the cartridge version of the soundtrack is actually BETTER than the CD version?
Tracks are completely different so quality is not comparable and the instrumentation sucks, yes, but the composition is nothing short of brilliant in my opinion. Listen to this, for example:

And even the iconic intro music is as good as it is simple:

Almost every track is unique and memorable that way.
Yes, they could've used the awesome movie soundtrack, but they would've had to mutilate it considerably. I much prefer an original score that is meant for the FM chip to settling for a muffled out compressed version like they did with the SNES version.

PS - you can listen to the soundtrack on actual hardware here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wktsNDv58s&t=4s
and the guy is also working on a rom hack to improve the instrumentation among other things.

The movie soundtrack is good, and they replicated that sound on the SNES version... and it sucks.

It's so terribly unfitting for the kind of game it is, so i'm happy they went with their own thing.

That opening theme is from the movie, is it not? I think I hear the melody here, maybe it's on another track too: https://youtu.be/BwhlLOWlYdo

That Shreck track, oh God, my ears.

Am I the only one that specifically prefers the Sega CD version purely because you can put it into driving only mode? The non-driving gameplay never did it for me on any platform, but the driving segments were fantastic.

you're not alone. check youtube. the driving sections are the only worthwhile theme of this game making the sega cd version the only worthwhile version.

Nope and it grinds my gears when people focus on the Platform parts when they are nothing more than a bonus. The driving sections are a game in their own right, look stunning and just incredible back in the day, play like a dream and like a classic SEGA Arcade racer and the music it out of this world. To me Batman Returns is the best 16-bit racer going

an ex of mine was baad aaass at the driving parts. she just had the reflexes and memory to make it look kind of easy. it helped that she loved the movie a lot. the platforming parts though she couldn't really get the hang of.

I love both parts of the game although as technically impressive as the Batmobile levels are in the Mega CD game I would love them a whole lot more if I wasn't completely shit at them! That timer...sheeesh, talk about unforgiving! The platform sections of the game have become almost second nature to me because, as a kid, I played the hell out of the Mega Drive version so got completely used to those, but the driving levels...I dunno about anyone else but no-matter how many times I play them (and love them!) I just don't seem to get any better at clearing them!
