If you're curious about whether to buy Retro-Bit's Sega Saturn controllers (or not), here are my thoughts.

As usual: Honest, un-sponsored, and pro-consumer.

Cool review. I have a friend that bought one and I've been thinking about getting one for the PC.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Seen a lot of posts on twitter of the dpad breaking on those. The plastic connector underneath is really flimsy plastic and been snapping for people. Not seeing the same reports for the Genesis ones. Seems it uses a more flimsy piece of plastic than the original. Light grey is an original SEGA one.

These reports why I have held off

Life!? ... What console is that on?

Thanks. I'm curious as to whether the PC ones are any good.

I'm assuming many of these should still be under warranty though that does look like a problem waiting to happen.

Same thing happens with Nintendo system battery cover flex tabs. They don't use a plastic suitable for frequent deformation, and it eventually fractures and snaps off. Well, since it seems to be a separate piece, perhaps replacing it would be relatively simple?

Apparently there was a bad batch where the plastic mix wasn't right for that particular part, but they'll send you a new replacement part or controller as long as you can show proof of purchase. If you search Reddit you can read their direct response (which includes this information) to the guy who originally posted those pictures.

I got one of black Saturn controllers recently, but I don't have my Saturn hooked up yet to test it thoroughly. It seems like the D-pad is looser than I was expecting it to be, but it's been years since I had a usable model 2 pad (other than my skeleton pad, which has a notably stiffer D-pad compared to the pad I used to use), so I can't compare it directly. It's definitely looser than the D-pad on the Genesis Retro-Bit controller I got.

With the Neo Geo MiSTer core making such rapid progress, I finally decided to try the Neo Geo X arcade stick since it should be the perfect fit.
