Thumbs down Mike Ditka Power Football

In 1991, Accolade threw its helmet into the Genesis football arena. It was a welcome addition at the time, since there were few options and fans were eager for games. But with the Genesis library filled with Joe Montana and Madden entries, is it still worth playing? Probably not. Read the full review for more details.

The only thing I really remember from this game, is the goofy default 'Football Disco' music theme that would play throughout the whole game after you started a game.

I remember that, but I haven't played this much

Best thing about this game is that you can run to the back of your own end zone and launch a pass 100 yards and score a touchdown. Most fun you can have is trying to make it happen lol

Unlike Madden & Montana, Mike Ditka Power Football has selectable BGMs. Go to the pause menu and turn the music off and on again to change tracks...

... and since when was 'Eye of the Tiger' a disco song?

No, this game can do something more "unique" than that:

Fumble the football into your opponents' end-zone and out of bounds. Instead of a touchback, you'll retain possession and line-up in the end-zone with gibberish displaying on the yard line indicator. Once you hike the ball it's an instant touchdown.

This game was so disappointing at the time. Madden, Montana, and Cyberball were already available and far better games in every way. I don't think I ever played a full game of this one. The controls were sluggish, the graphics and sound inferior, and the computer opponent was pathetic. The only cool thing about it was the cover painting by Boris Vallejo, which was also included as a poster in the box. I ditched the game but kept the poster.

    Good review, good score.
    Slayer-1: "Minus 210 degrees...minus 215...minus 220. Why are you still standing?"

    Bones: "My will...will not die."
