Default the genesis Power Base Adaptor

I have a genesis 1 and I use a fine RGB cable to play with it.

I might get a Power Base Adaptor (genesis version).

Can I play PAL master system games on this genesis Power Base Adaptor on a sega genesis 1?

Will I be able to display the picture with the rgb cable?

I live in europe and getting US master system games would be hard.

AFAIK, Master System games are region free between the US and the UK.

I have a SCART RGB cable that works on both my Master System and Genesis consoles. So I'd say yes.

I had one of these, called the Power Base Converter in the UK. Problem is, it was made to fit only the Mega Drive 1 and when I had to switch to using a Mega Drive 2, it became a useless peripheral. There is one available for the Mega Drive 2, but it's quite rare and expensive, from what I recall, and looks more like a Game Genie or Sonic & Knuckles cartridge.
It's probably one of the more niche ways of playing Master System Games, in hindsight. It definitely followed the 'backwards-compatible' logic that Sega used as a driving point over here in the UK though, due to how well the Master System did here, and it made sense to capitalise on that previous success.

In all system I know, the master system is one of the few systemes where the european market is just way better than the US or japanese market.

or you could use the above to play master system games on the megadrive, also check out the fm powerbase mini which contains the fm chip for improved music / sound effects.

I play the PAL version of Master of Darkness on my Sega Genesis with HD Retrovision component cables through the Powerbase Mini(linked above) and everything works flawlessly for me.

At that price, I would get a Mega Everdrive X3 instead. That can play master system games too.

If you are going for an everdrive, get the X7 for the FM sound is now emulated on it, so you can enjoy the Phantasy Star translation with FM.

Except for when you say "US Genesis games".

    Otherwise, yes to the rest.

There is no functional difference between the Genesis Power Base Converter and the Mega Drive Master System Converter.

Is the plastic section on the rear of the Power Base Converter needed? I have a PAL modded Mega drive with switches on the rear for changing between 50/60hz and overclocking, and I just found one of the switches gets in the way of the Power Base Converter, I was thinking if the plastic isnt needed I could saw it off or something.

It's ugly, but yes you can. It's just cosmetic.

Awesome, thanks. I dont want to cut up the converter, but I actually bought a Megadrive 1 just so I could use one of these converters, only to then find the damn thing wouldn't fit because of the mods.
