On the subject of the CDX,

Another plus is that it's compatible even with the original Power Base Converter. The PBC does fit as-is.
3D glasses and SMS 3D games work fine in that setup.

If you have to ask, you'd never understand anyway.

The Mega Drive is incomplete without it's Mega CD soul mate. It's like Laurel without Hardy, summer without sunshine, light without darkness...oh you sold it...(walks off shaking head)

But I just much prefer having the Genesis by itself (I'm ok with having a 32X too) because I trust cartridge based consoles more, compared to CD based, especially ones from the early-mid '90s. PS1 I would perhaps be fine with, but I prefer playing my PS1 games on a PS2 anyway (component video output being one of the biggest reasons). Excluding the CD-X, the Sega CD just takes up too much space IMO. If I had an entertainment center where it fits perfectly, then fine I may have considered keeping it.

The Mega CD model 1 sits snugly and perfectly underneath the model 1 Mega Drive. No space is taken up. The model 2 Mega CD sticks out and, unless it's partnered with a model 2 Mega Drive as was intended, looks ugly by comparison. The model 1 Mega CD is such a lovely design and really compliments the Mega Drive. The access lights, the smooth action of the disc tray sliding in and out, the boot up music...Sega hardware at it's best.

As for reliability issues I got my first model 1 Mega CD back in 2003 and it lasted me about ten years (that made it's overall lifespan since manufacture roughly twenty years, not bad for early 90's CD tech!). Not sure what went wrong on it and it could probably have been repaired but I'm not tech minded and didn't want to start taking it apart so I simply replaced it by buying a new model 1 Mega CD, which has served me well for the last five years, and I have another in reserve. They aren't getting any cheaper, and indeed have shot up in price over the last two years, but the fact is the system has a fantastic library of games and people are really starting to come around to that now.

    It's called an "extender/extension plate".

To be fair, there is a good emu on the Wii, you can have one for a tenner. If you're a philistine.

So I'm not going to spend the high cost for a CD-X either, although I do think it's really freakin' cool for being that small.
Earthworm Jim special edition is the best version of the game out there IMO and it's my favorite game.

Earthworm Jim Special Edition is the best version I fully agree. It's actually one of my favourite platform games of all time.
