Default 30 years later, Alex Kidd in Miracle World receives a sequel on the Master System.

    Hey folks,

As it turns out, Alex Kidd finally received a sequel on the Master System. It took 30 years, but it's here and it was even launched on a physical format.

You can find my review of the game here if you're interested:

All in all is this "just" another AKMW1 map hack like Radaxian Rumble or Mai Kai Quest ?

Well, I have spoken to the developers and it uses the same editor, so yes. But I do like the way this one is layed out. I feel like it strikes a nice balance at being a continuation of the first game, while adding enough new content.

Went to the site but didn't see any mention of being able to purchase the actual physical release? Only the rom seemed available?

A hack, while cool, is not a sequel. Had SEGA themselves developed an actual follow up, they would have used better technology, and the resulting game would have been much more advanced than the first.

It's a good game that a lot of love and attention of detail were put into, but unfortunately I think the "2" designation detracts from it. As he was developing it and discussing it on Sega 8-bit, there were forum members who advised him not to call it "Alex Kidd in Miracle World 2" - both for legal reasons and for the matter of canon, unofficial status, etc. He decided to do that anyway, but I don't think it should be regarded as a sequel - and certainly not as "the" sequel - any more than any of the other Alex Kidd hacks that have been made.

I agree with you, this is not a smart idea with someone else's IP.
