Default Mortal Kombat 3 (Win) & Mortal Kombat Trilogy (N64) Source Code has been found.

Could it be? Could we finally start a community project where we make our own better versions of MK for MD/Snes?

I'm at work right now, but I gave it a glance and it seems legit. I am comparing with this https://github.com/Ell/umk3 (A source for PSX from 2012).

So you can figure out the mechanics etc. But porting to MD/SNES will require a lot of re-writing I think, mainly the ASM part of course.

Yeah, you'd need to rewrite the kernel routines to use the Mega Drive hardware (of course). But I do recall that the Mega Drive port of UMK3 was also based on this source code (it sure as hell looked like C), so you may not be that off.

Yeah, the current crop of kids like to report everything that seems remotely illegal because they've been taught that getting easy brownie points means they're succeeding at life.

it's already uploaded on archive.org, and there's a torrent with .torrent files and magnets.

Maybe SDL Mortal Kombat Trilogy can finally happen. This can also help update MK 1+2 DOS to SDL. Only problem would be upgrading content quality from PSX to reference.

So I just read that the original MK3 arcade source code was included, along with all raw sound effects and music:

    Cool stuff.

Maybe. This doesn't include source for MK 1&2 though, and the only version of Trilogy included is the N64 version. It a shame, as I was hoping to try to figure out just what the hell's going on with the PC version of MKT's timing.

What I mean by this is that the PC version (both DOS version tested on Dosbox, and the Windows version) seems to run at a very odd frame rate. Unless you set up a custom refresh rate in the region of 62.46Hz, the game either tears like crazy or has somewhat choppy scrolling.

I'm specifically talking about Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and the problem is identical in both the DOS and Windows versions (which are both on the same disc and are based on the same code). The scrolling intro text is the big giveaway: it judders at all ordinary refresh rates (50Hz, 60Hz, 70Hz, etc). The DOS version has UniVBE tied to it, which causes issues in Dosbox, but I hacked that out. The game has to be VSynced to a rate in the region of 62.46 Hz to run completely smoothly (with the very occasional hiccup).

When the game exhibits the same issues whether running natively in Windows or in an emulated DOS environment, something weird is going on with that game's timing code.

Wasn't there something like that with the Arcade version too? I remember having to buy a special video decoder in my supergun to output MK1/2 video because it used a weird refresh rate?
it's been ages but there was something fucky going on there.

Yeah, IIRC the arcade version runs at an odd refresh rate. Google suggests it's 54.7 Hz.

Has anyone messed with this? There's a Win95.i file missing or somesuch.

Also the 3D0 version was leaked and if I remember right it uses the PSX source code as well.

Perhaps combined these would complete the windows build.
