    Opa-Opa Interview: Marc Ericksen (Artist)

Anyone who owns a NES or a Genesis knows the art of Marc Ericksen. He is responsible for some of the most well-known pieces of the 8- and 16-bit eras including Strider and Mega Man 2 for the NES and Thunder Force II and Herzog Zwei, for Genesis. We recently had a chance to chat with Marc about his experiences creating game art and these brilliant pieces. Read the full interview for more details.

Thanks Melf, what a good interview. He seems a cool chap and his artwork is fab. I think I'll be ordering a print or two for my future games room.

I never knew about that Mega Man artwork stuff, very interesting. It's amazing how folks get their knickers in a knot over stuff like this!

I particularly liked his After Burner cover, I'm not sure I've seen it before.

The Afterburner cover is from the Tengen NES port.

I always liked the western art for Thunder Force II. Much better than the original Japanese cover, even if the ship isn't accurate. It's arguable that his Herzog Zwei is better as well, although the JP version certainly has it's own charm.

Thanks for the interview, Melf. I've been meaning to go to PRGE for years but have never gone. The fact that he goes there every year might push me a little more to make it up there.
