    Default Pinocchio Sega 32X Prototype

Hidden Palace has released a ROM dump of an apparently finished Sega 32X prototype of Pinocchio.

    Looks nice.

Looks better than either the Genesis or SNES version. Wish it had been released! Not that a game like Pinocchio would have saved the 32X but it is sad to see a finished product that never saw the light of day.

    Finally!!!

It's so good when vaporware are found and preserved and not lost forever in a dusty drawer.
It's even more awesome when its an excelent addition to the 32x library!!!

I haven't played the SNES or Genesis versions. What exactly is different in the 32X version? Hidden Palace just says more colors (more than SNES?) and more parallax.

It's cool that this has been released, but it's basically the kind of title that the 32X DIDN'T need (almost exactly the same as Genesis version, didn't utilize any of the 32X's real capabilities).

IMO this is the kind of game that would have been fine if carts could have been released that worked on the stock MD/Genesis, but played in an enhanced mode with a 32X attached. If that had been possible.

As a stand alone game? Yeah, I think I agree. Titles where you basically have to play them side by side with other versions to see the difference weren't exactly going to be system sellers, and may have even given the impression that the system wasn't worth it.

The parallax difference is more noticeable in the amusement park level. They added a layer to the foreground.

Underwater level has different effects too. It's also higher resolution than the SNES version (as is the Genesis version). It probably wouldn't sell many people on getting the 32X as a next-gen upgrade, but maybe if the Neptune had been released then cartoonish games like this would appeal to parents who bought the system for their kids.

Also what Silanda said, it would have been great as an "enhanced" Genesis title.

Looks ok. Hopefully the enhancements didnt ruin the framerate, like it happened with 32X Pitfall.

The 32X layer should be running at 30fps, but the Genesis layers might be 60fps.

Nope in this case. This lost 32x version runs in full 60fps glory!!!

Wow, if there's a sweet spot balance of a certain amount of 32X vs Genesis assets that maintains 60fps in 2D games, it's a shame that they didn't all use it.

This is an exciting discovery. I've always been a sucker for Disney games on the Genesis so I'm excited to give this one a try, even if it's just a mild upgrade.

Haha the game looks great, though I never saw or played the other versions. The game certainly wouldn't make sense to be released for the 32x as it is... but the 32x colors certainly could have been used to upgrade the colors, a lot more than this. It could have turned into something great, maybe lol. At least the colors could have been great, potentially...

Not a huge change from the 16-bit versions but BIG THANKS to HP for releasing!!!
