Smile Xband: Online Gaming's First Big Try

Long before Xbox Live and even the Sega Channel, another company attempted to bring gamers together over the phone. Catapult's Xband was a moderately successful method of doing so, and the story behind it is an interesting one. Read the full article for all the details.

I'm probably alone in this but I'd love to have a new way to play online with my Megadrive,
Maybe a special cartridge with wifi or a cable port in it.

Then every cart would get a special number, that way you could add friends and stuff.

have a battery inside so you can save a friends list and stuff.
Maybe even have an option of writing your games list so people can see what you play.

The cartridge itself would work like a Sonic & Knuckles pass through cart, so you'd put your game in it.

That or just a flashcart with SD slot so you can play every game on your real console with everybody in the world.
(as long as your console is modded to play 60hz that is)

And no, Emulator online play is not the same >_<

*rants on about how great it would be*

That's a pretty good idea NeoVamp. It could basically be just like XBAND, except it would have only an ethernet port. With communities as big as this one, and others, I'm sure you'd be able to garner enough interest.
