They aren't giving people their refunds because they can't get it on steam as promised and felt lied too now Shenmue series has name tarnished or something..

When the survey went out to backers what platform they want the game on the ones who chose Steam are no longer getting it on Steam. Now it's Epic Game Store exclusive so those users have to use Epic instead of steam but on top of that, they may still have to buy the game again. Then there some issue with keys for physical I think because of this. Basically, people were lied to and when they asked for a refund. They were all denied one.

Life!? ... What console is that on?

ah, okay, so just another case of kickstarter backers getting shafted. I guess it must be Wednesday already!

As for the Epic store thing; vote with your wallet: don't buy the game. Just pirate it until it gets put on steam, or working standalone without steam for that matter.

It didn't have lies attached to it, since epic store did not even exist at the time; the option to use that came up later in development. What they did was change their mind in a way so they cannot hold up their previous claims anymore - this can happen very often due to people changing views, or some more advantageous deal coming up during the time. And changing goals is something that has to be allowed on kickstarters, either stated in the TOS or through some legal loophole, because it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME, and people ALWAYS complain, and then it happens AGAIN.

Also for a game of Shenmue's history, finding a way to lower development costs is a really significant thing (Epic will allow you to use Unreal Engine for free if you go exclusive to them for a time, iirc). Remember what happened the last time Shenmue went "over budget".

I did get notice from LRG that it looks like they will in fact be releasing a physical version of Shenmue III.

Guess that is the only real physical release so far known and confirmed?

Long story short, Epic games threw Shenmue III a boatload of money for an exclusive to their store and naturally the backers who were told it was going to be on Steam are rightfully pissed off. It was bad form and even tho they said they'll release it on Steam at a later date doesn't help to reduce the sting of those players who wanted the game on release day.

Still doesn't come with the disc. The PS3 release will be the only one with it.

Will Shenmue III be the last physical disc for ps3 ever, or will they release future games for that "dead system"?

Having to wait 3/6/12 months until it hits Steam is very modest after waiting 18 years for the game to be made at all.

This is too morally relative. Simply don't buy the game if you don't like the distribution practices. Don't steal it as well.
